Who is Jezebel? What is the “Spirit of Jezebel”?

ABOUT THIS TEACHING

This Teaching examines the biblical Jezebel, beginning with her marriage to Ahab in 1 Kings 16 and the idolatrous influence associated with her in Israel. It then asks what Christians often mean by the phrase “spirit of Jezebel.” The Teaching explicitly notes that the words “spirit of Jezebel” are not a biblical phrase and uses the expression descriptively for a recurring pattern of conduct or influence rather than establishing the name of a literal spirit from the text. Through the account of Naboth’s vineyard, Jezebel’s opposition to Yahovah’s prophets, and Revelation 2:20, the Teaching identifies patterns such as manipulation, misuse or seizure of authority, false accusation, deception, idolatry, opposition to Yahovah’s message, sexual immorality, seduction, and rebellion against Yahovah’s authority. The Teaching also stresses that these behaviors are not limited to women. Its application is to recognize the biblical characteristics themselves rather than use “Jezebel” merely as a gendered label.

TEACHING TRANSCRIPT

Chapter 1: Introduction to Jezebel

amen all right here we are I think on the final of our questions from viewers although

we may we do we may as I mentioned before do one on the 144,000 in the near future uh today we’re going to be

answering uh a couple of questions so we’re going to start off with who is Jezebel a fairly brief

lesson and then we’re going to go into what does it mean that we will judge the Nations uh that is really a one slide

lesson so we’ll be able to probably go through today pretty quickly I think it was my son that asked this question

about who is Jezebel and so I thought it would be good for us to understand this she is a a figure in

the Bible that you hear quite a bit about but a lot of people just don’t quite understand who she is and where she

comes from so we’re going to start here in uh in First Kings chapter 16 the 38th year of Assa king of Judah

Ahab the son of omry became king over Israel and Ahab the son of omry reigned

over Israel in Samaria 22 years now Ahab the son of omry did evil in the sight of the Lord more than all

who were before him and it came to pass as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of jobon

the son of nbat that he took his as his wife Jezebel the daughter of

ethbaal when that means in Hebrew with ball King of the

sidonians and he went and served ball and worshiped him and he set up an altar for BA in the temple of Bal which he had

built in Samaria and Ahab made a wanted image Ahab did more to provoke the Lord of God

of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him which is a

shocking statement considering yeah that the Bible Compares just about every King to

jeroboam and yet and all H the evil he did and yet Ahab is said to have

provoked God to anger more than anybody else so here we see hanen of the first

mention of who this person is um married a king of Israel but even

though she was married to a king of Israel she was the daughter of somebody

who had named himself in Alliance with

ball ORS Bal was the biblical represent representation of all things

3 minutes

evil and ungodly so here we have a pretty big problem already she and her whole family were worshippers of ball

and the ashth now we have to understand a little bit more about ashth that is her name in

Hebrew and in Syrian she is known as istar and in Sumerian she is known as

enana so this is the same entity the same Idol the same person worshiped

through these three ancient peoples going all the way back to the

Tower of Babel where she was called enana and the primary way of worshiping

this entity this deity this female deity was through sexual immorality Temple

prostitution proper worship of her would be all things impure all things

immoral uh whether it be sexual morality or adultery or

beastiality this was the proper form of worship uh for these three entities and

it just so happened as we read in the verse already that this is who Jezebel

worshiped this is who her family worshiped this is her background of

following these uh evil deities uh through time so to understand a little bit more

about the Tower of Babel and those days of inana this Tower was constructed to be a counterfeit of Mount Zion many of you

may know that Mount Zion of course the Mountain of God and the people back then were trying to

count fit or to have an Earthly version of this mountain of God there’s

an old saying as in heaven so on Earth and so s in all his efforts did

everything he did in the spirit of trying to counterfeit what was in

heaven and so if God’s going to have the Holy Mount Zion Nimrod and his ilk are going to

build the Tower of Babel counterfeiting the Holy One has been a scheme of the enemy since the beginning of time so if

Heaven had a king Earth would have a demonic Queen

and that’s where we get enana and istar and

ashth that was Satan’s effort to duplicate but at the same time do the

opposite of what God was doing in heaven among the Heavenly counterfeits was also

a perversion of what God created to be between a man and a woman that is the sexual

relationship so if there was going to be a Godly Union between man and

woman then Satan’s Union would be immoral sexual immorality beastiality

homosexuality and prostit tion not just prostitution but prostitution in the

temple if God’s Temple would have seraphim and cherubim as Servants of the most high Satan would have Temple

prostitutes both male and female to serve every deviant desire of

mankind and we all know from previous discussions and lessons that this was a very dark time in human history

7 minutes

shortly after the flood even it began to start all over so what makes Jezebel

such a dangerous person in the Bible Well we read it in the verse

before she became the wife of the king of Israel thus becoming queen of Judah

even though Israel didn’t recognize her as Queen uh she basically took that role upon

herself she basically became the the female counterpart to ahab’s leadership and she basically

took point on the direction that he would lead Israel during this time so it

was a very very dangerous time together they LED Israel into full-on ball

worship uh with rampant sexual immorality and even child sacrifice where did these children come from well

they not only came from the people but there were uh pregnancies as

a result of the sexual immorality and prostitution that was going

on so the children that came as a result of all the sexual immorality were also offered to molok

and if you call um in what study that I teach molok on oh it’s my book in my book I Tau

about the practice of Molech uh he was a a deity that had a bull head and they

made a very large bronze statue of moak who had his hands held

out with his palms up and they would build a fire underneath his

9 minutes

hands and of course as a result of that his hands would get Blazing Red Hot and

it was in the palms of moloch’s hands that they would lie the infant sacrifices and the the statue was

surrounded by drummers who would be constantly drumming to drown out the S sounds of the children as they died it

was a terrible terrible time in Israel’s history and Jezebel was at the heart of

it so the spirit of Jezebel there there’s a question about the spirit of Jezebel we know that Jezebel was a real

Chapter 2: Characteristics of Jezebel

person that lived in history but what is this quote unquote Spirit of Jezebel

that you hear so often in sermons and in lessons so let’s explore that for a little bit although the words Spirit of

Jezebel are not in the biblical text the phrase is often used in Christian discourse to describe a particular type

or behavior or influence rather than referring to a literal Spirit Jezebel is depicted in the Bible

as manipulative idolatrous and morally corrupt so here are some key attributes

commonly associated with the spirit of Jezebel and to understand what the

spirit of Jezebel is you have to understand her biblical characteristics so we’re going to start here in First Kings

21 and we’re going to read this and as I read it I want you to try to identify some things that stand out to you about

what could be the spirit of this person the spirit of Jezebel it came to pass

after these things that naboth the jezreelite had a Vineyard which was in Jezreel next to the Palace of Ahab king

of Samaria so Ahab spoke to naboth saying give me your Vineyard that I may have it for a vegetable garden because

it’s near next to my house where I will give you a Vineyard better than it or if it seems good to you I will give you its

worth in money but nabbo said to Ahab the Lord forbid that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you so Ahab

went into his house Sullen and displeased because of the word which naboth the jezreelite had spoken to him

for he had said I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers and he laid down in his bed and turned away his face and would not eat food he really wanted

that Garden but Jezebel his wife came to him and said to him why is your spirit so SE

that you eat no food and he said to her because I spoke to Nebo the jezreelite and said to him give me your

Vineyard for money or else if it pleases you I will give you another Vineyard for it and he answered I will not give you my Vineyard

12 minutes

then Jezebel his wife said to him you now exercise authority over Israel arise eat food and let your heart be cheerful

I will give you the vineyard of naboth the jezreelite and she wrote letters and in ahab’s name sealed them with his seal

and sent the letters to the Elders of the Nobles who were dwelling in the city with naboth she wrote in the letter

saying proclaim a fast and seat naath uh with high honor among the people and

seek two men Scoundrels before him to Bear witness against him saying you have blasphemed God and the King then take

him out and stone him that he may die so the men of his City the elders and Nobles were who were inhabitants of the

city did as Jezebel had said to them as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them they proclaimed a fast

and seated nabbo with high honor among the people and two men Scoundrels came in and sat before him and the Scoundrels

witnessed against him against naath in the presence of the people saying naath has blasphemed God and the king and they

took him outside the city and stoned him with stones so that he died then they sent to Jezebel saying naath has been

stoned and is dead and it came to pass when Jezebel heard that naboth had been stoned and was dead said that Jezebel

said to Ahab arise take possession of the vineyard of nabo the jezreelite which he refused to do give you for

money for naath is not alive but dead so what did you see let’s have some

discussion here about what you saw that could be identified as quote

unquote the spirit of Jezebel mostly using Okay false

accusation manipulative taking

over abusive power yeah I mean all the above right

she says to to her husband Hey listen you have the authority you do something

which was what which was encouraging her husband to go some to do something beyond what he should

do simply because he had authority over Israel it’s a sign of really a weak

husband a weak leader yeah yeah well she was encouraged him to go beyond his authority to do

something that he ought not do as king and then she wrote this letter in his

name and seal sealed it with his seal so now she’s not just

encouraging him to go beyond his authority she is stealing his authority she is acting in

behalf of the king using his seal what else well this is very

interesting she knows the law she’s telling Ahab or these people to

proclaim a fast and to seat two men why is it important to seat two

men because you have to have the witness of two people yeah you have to have a witness Deuteronomy

19 one witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits by the mouth of two or

three Witnesses the matter shall be established she knows this so not only is she

serving demonic gods and taking her husband with her into this practice she also knows the

law and now she is using it in an ungodly way to get what she wants to

Bear witness against them and of course she also knows what she knows the penalty

and so here we see basically all matters of snakin right in in how

Jezebel handled the situation to basically steal this Vineyard from

nabbo what else can we see about her characteristics promotion of idolatry First Kings

Chapter 3: Idolatry and opposition

16 it came to pass as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of jeroboam the son of neba that she took as that he took as wife the

daughter of ethal the king of the sidonians and he went and served ball and worshiped him and then he set up an altar for ball in the temple of ball so

what’s going on here well we’ve already read this passage in the opening verses but what we can see here is the result

of an earlier sin if you will what was the earlier sin well this is precisely

why yahovah forbade Israel from blending with or marrying people in the

Nations it’s precisely because of this because as a result of that marriage the Bible says he set up an

altar for ball in the temple of ball so who was influencing who and

that’s always the question by the way when someone comes to me and says they’re interested in dating this this

woman who really aren’t spiritual or how much time should I be spending time with this

person that that question is always raised who’s going to influence who I I

just had a conversation with a young man uh in Austin who called me for some

advice about whether or not he should uh go into the military and um we had a

good long conversation at the end of the day I said listen you’re you’re trying to be a man of God you’re trying to do

the right thing you you go to basic training and you’re surrounded by a hundred men from the

world and and who are all just saying talking doing some really disgusting

things and here you are trying to be a man of God you’re going to be singled out as the Holy Roller you’re going to

be singled out as the guy who’s not like everybody else but that’s exactly what you want at

the end of the day you want to fit in you want to be respected you want to be liked so who’s going to influence who

over time are you going to expect all of them to raise their standards because of

you or will you eventually give in to their standards just so you can fit in

it’s a very real thing that happen happens every single day and this EXA is exactly what happened with

Ahab he lowered his standards not that they were high to begin with to

honor his wife’s desires and that’s exactly why we see throughout

scripture why God says lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land and play the Harlot with their gods

and make sacrifice to their gods and any one of them invites you and and and you eat of his sacrifice you take of his

daughters for your sons and his daughters play the Harlot with their gods and make your sons play the Harlot

with their gods see God understood this Joshua 23 therefore take careful heed to

yourselves that you love the Lord your God or else if indeed you do not or you do go back and cling to the remnant of

the these nations these that remain among you and make marriages with them and go into

them and they to you know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations before you but

they shall be snares and traps to you and scores on your sides and thorns in

your eyes until you perish from this good land which the Lord your God has given you again he understands how these

things turn out we all have good intentions it’s going to be okay I’ll bring her around I’ll teach her the

truth or I’ll teach him the truth and yet God has already said no you

won’t you’ll end up playing the Harlot with these people from other nations serving under uh New Gods and of course

Paul understood this second Corinthians do not be unequally yolked together with unbelievers

what Fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness and what communion has light with darkness and what Accord has Christ

with bile or what part has a Believer with an unbeliever and what agreement has the temple of God with Idols for you

are the Temple of the Living God we should explore this passage a little bit more he says do not be unequally yolked

with unbelievers a lot of Christians when to look to this verse as their standard for

22 minutes

dating and marriage and they should but it goes way beyond that I

think to not be unequally yolked or to be unequally yolked with an unbeliever would that include business Partnerships

would that include Financial deals and all kinds of things that we should be yolked together

with an unbeliever I think it does and I think it’s something that we can explore greater in the future but God was trying

to create a people for himself that was completely set apart and obviously it includes marriage

but it also I think includes other unions that we might have with people in the Nations because they never turn out

well you’ve got great standards you’re trying to hold to biblical truths your partner doesn’t care about these things

e may Li cheat and steal in the process of of uh running the business that you own together for

example well obviously that creates a problem and so it goes beyond just the dating and marriage

relationship um what about opposition to yehovah’s prophets First Kings 18 for it was for

so it was while Jezebel massacred the prophets of the Lord

that Obadiah had taken 100 prophets and hidden them 50 to a cave and had fed them with bread and water so okay now

she’s not just usurping Authority stealing Authority from the King now she’s massacring the prophets

of the Lord why would somebody do that you know to quiet the influence of God you know

they’re proclaiming God’s message that’s exactly right she’s TR she’s

trying to thwart or to shut down God’s influence over the People by

eliminating the prophets who speak to them why because she wants the people to

listen to her prophets and not Gods First Kings

19 Ahab told Jezebel all all that Elijah had done also how he had executed all

the prophets with the sword you remember this right this is when Elijah stepped in and killed the prophets of ball after

God’s fire Reign down on the sacrifice licking up all the water and Jezebel sent a messenger to

Elijah saying so let the gods do to me and more also if I do not make your life

as the life of one of them by tomorrow this time so she wasn’t just going after any

a average everyday Prophet she was also going after Elijah

himself immorality and deception this is a very interesting verse this is revelation

Chapter 4: The spirit of immorality

2:20 this is Yeshua speaking to the churches nevertheless I have a few things against you because you allow

that woman that woman in the Greek is your wife because you allow your wife Jezebel

who calls herself a prophetess to teach and seduce my servants to commit sexual immorality and to eat things sacrificed

to Idols so here Yeshua is saying your wife

like she was to Ahab in other words whoever was leading this

church or whoever not anyone person but the leadership of the church the eldership of the

church was allowing sexual immorality within the

body and maybe even teaching it flat out says to teach and

seduce so here’s a question how big of a problem does the Christian

church have today with sexual immorality within its

membership it’s just one many many problems it’s rampant every single day it seems I’m hearing about another

Pastor who has to set you know come out of the ministry or resign his post or even go to

jail because he’s involved in sexual immorality back when I was a young believer in the campus ministry we heard

of a situation within our own family of churches where the Evangelist and his

wife were having sex origies with the

staff of that church swapping wives within our own family of churches

it was huge it was a big deal uh it happens guys this this is not just a Revelation 2 first century situation the

spirit of Jezebel of immorality and deception still lives

on in the Christian church even today and Rebellion against authority of

Chapter 5: Rebellion in scripture

course we’ve seen all of that Jezebel’s actions are often seen as rebell against God’s Authority and the established

order challenging the prophets and promoting her own agenda everything she did challenged not only the authority of the Lord but every

one of his standards and every one of his appointed Kings and Prophets so what

is then the spirit what is the spirit of Jezebel that we can see I I wrote a

paper some time ago um I think even as a result of our little group here if you recall many

months ago we studied the women’s role in um in in the church

scenario sadly it was a it was a lesson I didn’t record as a result I wrote a paper about

this uh about a women’s position of authority in church because we see Paul

has some very strong words about this I shared with a brother that a woman according to Joel according to

Acts 2 uh according to Luke can be a propheus she can be given the role of

propheus the gift of Prophecy well how does a woman Express

that gift if she has to be silent in the churches and of course we learned in

that study that that verse in 1 Corinthians 14 um may be um a a a scribes addition a

scribal addition to this to the verse so how can how can that be how can a woman have the gift of Prophecy if she

has to be silent uh well we determined that that wasn’t the case a woman can teach Paul is saying he doesn’t want a

woman to have a authority over a church she’s not supposed to be a church leader in today’s vacor a pastor uh or or an

evangelist as we might know them or a reverend um that’s not the role that he wanted to give her does that mean she

can’t teach no so what’s the difference between someone who has the gift of

Prophecy as given by God in Jezebel well the is if a woman thinks

she has the right to be up on stage and to lead and to teach just like a man

does if a woman demands the authority of pastorship or Reverend hood

or church leadership if she forces her way into that in the name of

equality that is the spirit of Jezebel versus the woman who knows she has the

gift and just wants to share it she’s not trying to take over she’s not trying to usurp a position of authority she

just wants to use her gift to share and to teach people it’s a huge difference there and we can see this Spirit of

Jezebel throughout scripture can’t we and it goes all the way back to Eve right who disobeyed God’s command not to

eat of the tree of Good and Evil the knowledge of Good and Evil of course she she led Adam to have some resulting in

the fall of mankind so we see this Spirit back in day three of course we see we see at Lot’s

wife right we read about her some weeks ago uh disobeying the command not to look back and she turned into a pillar

of spal this the spirit of Disobedience you see it in Sarah in her patience for God’s promise

of a child encouraged Abraham to have a child with her maid servant Hagar which would against God’s plan for her she was

impatient we see it with Rebecca who conspired with her son Jacob to deceive her husband Isaac to secure the blessing

intended for Esau we see it in Miriam Who challenged Moses’s Authority as God’s chosen

leader as a result was struck with leprosy we see it with Jezebel herself we

already saw that she led Israel into idolatry persecuted God’s prophets orchestrated

murder aalia in 2 Kings 11 the mother of King aazia seized the Throne of Judah by

killing all possible heirs to the throne it’s the spirit of Jezebel uh Delila or Delila in judges 16

though not an Israelite betrayed Samson by coaxing him to revealing the secret of his strength which was cutting his hair if you recall and then handing him

over to the Philistines The Same Spirit Mika second Samuel 6 the daughter

of Saul and the wife of David despised David in her heart when he danced before the Lord that is precisely the the

spirit of Jezebel why is she despising David in her in her heart as he danced before the Lord

I mean the answers could be all over the place but there was something about David’s relationship to God that she

just despised she minimized she just didn’t like this

constant devotion that David seemed to have with God and

herodias was the wife of Herod Antipas who conspired ired to have John the Baptist

executed after he condemned her marriage as unlawful so we can see throughout

scripture what this spirit is now the question has to come up is the spirit

Chapter 6: Judging the nations

reserved only for women no that’s exactly it you could just as easily make a long or even

longer list of men with men exactly yes it just so happens that God uses this to

make a point but it’s not limited to Just Women by any stretch of imagination so thoughts thoughts or

questions on what we just looked at or comments I have a I have a question

yeah so is it still a command for Israel not to marry

outside oh absolutely that that command has not gone away and we understand that command

Glenn even from our own family of churches that you and I grew up in you know we were taught not to marry outside

the church but if I am an Israelite I could still marry somebody from

Israel I’m sorry say that again me being an Israelite I could still marry even though through

Yeshua I could marry somebody that was Jewish it’s about being a Believer um David actually made a made a

joke that will you go ahead and say but I wanted I’m sorry yes I’ll tell that unquote joke but I want to hear again glandis and and laurian what was I

missed that Discord she said he’s already married oh yes it’s a little small detail there and

then Glenn said oh yeah yeah no I it’s got to do with

line go ahead David no I just wanted to say that this this uh command if you will of God is

something that I to some you know that I actually to some extent at least to our current knowledge disobeyed right uh in

in being uh you know Jewish and marrying Christine now I think that I actually

use this example sometimes as uh and in our case I say it worked out beautifully because to be honest he’s she’s actually

the one who brought me to God and to the knowledge of Jesus right but I think that it also demonstrates the power of a

wife over her husband if he’s you know if he’s open and he loves her and he willing he’s willing to you know value

her opinion and and you know and who she is right so I think that was I mean I was clearly influenced

by her and my faith and she uced me to the faith she introduced me to Jesus and as I said it worked out well for us and worked out well for our family but you

know like in the case of Jezebel can be or in other cases where the you know women who were uh followers of other

gods can you know powerfully influence uh their uh husbands and their families

to stray and to go after other gods but I added to that and I said well but I wasn’t the unbeliever you were

right I Married An unbeliever right yeah so David you don’t you don’t understand

your tribal background do you um I I it’s all

anecdotal okay so assuming the very worst the David would be a great example

of uh those who were cast into the nations from the house of or the house

of of uh of Israel he was in the Nations and he was he was for all intents and purposes an unbeliever yes he had Jewish

blood but he was atheist in his perspective um or agnostic at the best

uh about you know where he was in in his faith then he he meets Christine who had become a Christian and she turned him on

to the faith and uh and then of course you know he was baptized into Christ and then much

later these these most recent days you know coming to the understanding of entire biblical truth understanding the

ways of the Lord um but that coming full circle to Glenn’s question yes when we become Believers we are by

faith joining Israel becoming Israel does that mean you can marry a Jew well

only if there they’re faithful only if they’re also a Believer it’s got nothing to do blood yeah yeah it’s got nothing

to do with bloodline Glen Glenn number two’s got a comment speak up though the example of

that is Boaz who married a moabit but who had already converted faithful toob

that’s right great example Ruth right that was Ruth yep Ruth and she’s part of Jesus lineage

yeah that’s right okay any other questions before we move on to our one slide lesson on

judging the Nations alrighty then we will judge the Nations I think this was a lorean

Chapter 7: Authority and rulers

question and we touched on this a bit in the course of a recent lesson on the New

Jerusalem but I didn’t think it would take long to uh to cover this Paul says something very interesting in his first

letter to Corinth where he says do you not know that the Saints will judge the world and if the world will be judged by

you are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters do you not know that we will judge

Angels so here he’s kind of rebuking them for not knowing how to handle disputes amongst

themselves when he makes this comment about about judging the world and judging the

Angels now any true student of the Bible when they come across things like this or

really in any of their study of the New Testament they should ask themselves

where did Paul get this idea is this just Paul’s understanding

is this just something he made up how does he know this where did he get this from and just as I shared at the opening

of this lesson about a lesson that we’re going to be doing soon about Yeshua teaching Torah we’re also going to see

that Paul also taught nothing but Torah and when I mean by Torah I don’t just

mean the five books I mean the Tanakh they both talk nothing but the tanak

entire the entirety of the Hebrew scriptures so that means that Paul must have got this thought this

teaching from his understanding of the Hebrew scriptures and by the way you’ve heard me say many times that aside from

Yeshua there is no greater biblical scholar that’s ever walked the planet than

Paul he understood the Hebrew scriptures like nobody else and of course we see

that in Psalm 149 let the Saints be joyful in glory let them sing aloud on

their beds let the high praises of God be in their mouth and a two-edged sword in their hand to execute Vengeance on

the Nations and Punishment on the peoples to bind their kings with chains and their nobles with feathers of iron

to execute on them written judgment this honor have all the

saints so here even way back in the Book of Psalms we see this reference to the

Saints having some sort of authority over the Nations so it appears that some of

us and I use that word intentionally that phrase some of us will have some

duties and authorities in the New Jerusalem and yeshua’s Parables confirm

this we’re not going to read all of it but we see in Matthew 25 the Lord said

to him well done good and faithful servant you were Faithful over a few

things I will make you what a ruler over many things enter into the joy of the Lord he

also he also who had received two talents came and said Lord you delivered to me two talents look I have gained two

more talents besides them his lord said to him well done good and faithful servant you have been Faithful over a

few things I will make you ruler over many things enter into the

joy of the Lord what is the joy of the Lord that’s the New Jerusalem that’s coming that he is welcoming them into

saying that they’re going to be ruler over many things the same we see in Luke

19 he said to them well done good servant because you were faithful in very little have authority over 10

cities and the second came saying master your Mina has earned five miners

likewise he said to them you also be over five cities so this is

interesting you see unless you understand the Thousand-Year Millennia I shouldn’t even say that let

me back up and say unless you believe it so many people in the Christian

church want to tell you that the Thousand-Year reign of M Yeshua is

allegorical it really doesn’t mean a thousand years unless you understand the Thousand-Year reign in conjunction with

45 minutes

the New Jerusalem on the planet at that time you’ll never understand these verses these don’t make sense to

you how will I have authority over 10 cities because in your mind Evangelical

Christian you’re going to heaven when you die we’re all going to heaven to this mysterious place in the sky where

are these cities in heaven so no unless you understand the teaching of the New Jerusalem the teaching of the

Thousand-Year reign of Yeshua these things make no sense to you but when you do they do we’re going to have authority

over cities Paul says we’re going to judge the world even in the

smallest matters but how are we going to judge well let’s look at this real

quick in way back in the Book of Judges chapter 2 the Bible says that the Lord raised up judges this is during the time

that Israel had no king if you recall he raised up these people to

speak on his behalf during that time well when we look at that word

judges it’s the word shafat or shafat and it simply means to govern or

to judge to act as lawgiver judge and Governor well what does that

mean well those of us who will be given this responsibility of ruling over Nations or

having authority over cities will be the conveyors of God’s

holy law remember remember during this time it’s going to be a theocracy Yeshua will be reigning over

the entire Globe these cities these nations that are outside the gate will be judged

according to his law and it will be some of us who will

be acting as ambassadors if you will to these cities conveying

his laws making judgments according to his

law giving law deciding controversies and executing law civil religious

political social so that’s what it means that we will judge the Nations now

he also mentions this judging the Angels business well we know what that is right those

48 minutes

angels who were cast into the dungeon as a result of their sin with

human women back in Genesis 6 both Peter and Jude say they are locked away until

the Judgment comes these angels we will also judge so that’s what it means that we

will judge the Nations a simple one slide lesson

so what do youall think of that questions

thoughts comments laoren you asked the question what are your thoughts um I think it’s

really exciting this is new information for me um I mean a lot of this is I

one of the things about like leading into this has to do with women being told to kep keep silent in the church

that was my entire Faith experience since I was young so I have a lot of grief and I

have I I’m going to have a lot of processing to do about that and maybe some follow-up discussions but um so

it’s a little bit difficult to wrap my brain around this idea a of possibility of doing such exciting

things during a millennia that I didn’t really even until recently didn’t even know was a thing that it

was so this is just it’s all very exciting um and that’s about all I can say about right

now doesn’t mean I lots of thoughts but I know we’re limited on time okay

Ed yes so the New Jerusalem those of us that are within the walls or outside the

walls will we live that whole time where we will

live yeah there will be there will be no death inside the walls of the New Jerusalem we we will have begun our

eternity at that time there will be death on the outside of jus Jerusalem that’s why it’s called outer

Darkness we did a lesson gosh last year I think on the New Jerusalem where we

talked about uh how Matthew uses the phrase outer Darkness three different times um it will be light it be light

and dark you know it’ll be for us it’ll be we’ll have our new bodies by then within the New

Jerusalem while the rest of the world is happening on the outside of the gates for a thousand years wow do we need to have some

conversation um about women’s role real quick for laurian or anybody else real quick don’t

be afraid to speak up just for you laurian just

okay okay well um let’s let’s just do it real briefly here let me pull up my my

Bible I’ll share that screen with you in a second all right y’all see

Chapter 8: Women’s roles in church

that okay so here in 1 Corinthians 14 Paul’s talking about what church meetings talking about order

and church meetings you know uh if anyone has a tongue if anyone wants to interpret all that kind of stuff uh but

then he says here in verses 34 and 35 let your women keep silent in the

churches they are not permitted to speak but they are to be submissive as the law also

says and if they want to learn something let them ask their own husbands at home for it’s shameful for women to speak in

church okay as I studied this out I came across

this and had several problems with it

one Paul well let me say the first thing is

this again if we go back to Acts 2 the Bible says that the spirit will be

poured out in the end times and the women will prophesy how are they supposed to

prophesy if this is the requirement the biblical requirement that’s a problem for

me the second problem and the biggest problem is

this Paul says as the law also says now

again I believe Paul to be the greatest Torah teacher of all time aside

from Yeshua he is not going to cite the

law erroneously he’s not going to make an error about what the law says or doesn’t

say when you do an indepth study of the law in this

matter you see nowhere in the Torah that women must remain

silent that they are not permitted to speak it doesn’t

exist and in my studies I consulted a rabbi and I asked him please show me in

the Torah or anywhere in the Tanakh that says women must keep silent and they’re not permitted to

speak he said I cannot because it’s not there so I consulted a Old Testament

scholar and I asked him please show me in the Tanakh where women have to be silent and they’re not permitted to

speak he said I cannot because it’s not there so if that’s the case

than what in the world is Paul referring to when he says as the law also

says that’s the first and the biggest problem or set of problems that I have with this verse the second problem or

the third I guess at this point if we’re keeping account is when we look at this

verse in the original language we see this

word Sagal and it basically means to shut up to keep silent to keep

secret but when we go to Paul’s letter to

Timothy and he says as for the women let the woman learn in silence

to learn in silence we go to the Greek in this

verse and we see it’s entirely

different to be still to be quiet to be

calm why do we see these two words being used to convey

supposedly the same teaching for these

reasons many believe in the biblical scholarly

environment that these two verses are called an

interpolation what’s an interpolation an interpolation is a verse or words

written in the margin of the text that may or may not be the words of

the author that is a possible explanation as

to why we have two different words for silent in these two letters because per perhaps a

transcriber or a translator or a scribe at some point in transcribing

these uh verses wrote a note in the

margin conveying his thoughts on what he thinks Paul is trying to

say I’m saying all of that to say this that there is a possibility and I think a strong

possibility that verses 34 and 35 in 1 Corinthians 14 are indeed a

interpolation because of all the reasons I just gave you so if that’s the case then our

strongest hope for understanding the Biblical message is Paul’s words to

Timothy because they’re not the same when you look at

this this word means calmness not

necessarily silent with all submission why why is this an

issue well because if you understand the first century synagogue

environment they were often times not the most worshipful

environments as men would get into arguments with each other about the meaning of one word or

another that’s how we got the the the talmud in the first place they would often be contentious

environments with raised voices and if a woman spoke up in defense of her

husband which women do well that would just create all kinds of

chaos and so that’s why Paul is saying let her learn calmly with all

submission if she has a question let her go home and ask her husband about it so to speak but then he says I don’t permit

them to teach or have authority over over a man but to be in silence to be in

submission to be calm the different word than the one we saw in 1 Corinthians

14 so at the end of the day what do I believe I believe that women who have been given

the gift of Prophecy need to have an Avenue to express that gift of Prophecy

does that mean she gets to be a church leader no that’s what Paul was trying to say he

doesn’t want women exercising that type of authority over men over a congregation it’s not her role it’s not

her place does that mean she’s lesser than no it’s just a difference in roles men have their roles women have their

roles and they’re not supposed to be swapped okay but that doesn’t mean a woman can’t teach I I happen to know a

handful of really phenomenal prophetesses women who are using their

gift in in an environment like this where she’s teaching people on

YouTube uh and she’s amazing I happen to think of one off the top of my head her name is Janette um she she sees things that are

like oh my gosh Next Level I believe that woman has a gift of Prophecy she needs to have an Avenue to use

it but should she be leading a congregation no does that make sense lauen yeah it’s very helpful and that’s

something to study out further I I feel like

it stole a lot from a lot of women that I know and myself growing up

so it Grieves me well atrocities have been done in the name of God for all different reasons

over time over the his past you know this is just one of them but that’s why you and I are here right you and I are here trying to get to the truth of the

matter what’s what and we’re seeking and searching with all of our heart which is what Yeshua said to do so amen I was

just going to say laoren you said it stole from a lot of women I personally believe that it stole from you know the entire body right right I mean the I

just know for example in my life that the perspective that Christine brings to the table the example that Ed brought

that said this woman has I think that God uh you know just as equally created in the image of God but obviously with

different gifts and different perspectives and that perspective is so enriching uh and and deepens our

understanding so I think that it’s a it’s an equally important perspective to

be you know heard and to be understood so I think that that affects not only

like you said the women but also the body as a whole cannot benefit from that Glenn you want to say something

yeah yeah um I don’t know if everybody knows this but Joanne and I had issues with just because of the traditions of

the church we went to um and they had changed um some women leading

communion um and they were they were accompanied by their husband and some were starting to lead uh the singing

Ministry um I think I’m okay with that uh some were uh obviously in the children’s ministry there were there

were women that were leading the whole Ministry which I thought was awesome but we just got confused over the whole

issue of being over um teaching to men and we just kind of thought communion

1 hour, 4 minutes

was from the pulpit type thing and I still don’t know I mean I’m still kind

of out on that one but anyways well uh uh you you know you’re you’re no longer

in the system plan in one sense so in one sense it doesn’t really matter because that the the church the nations are going to rage anyways you know on

all kinds of different topics um I I I think that if a woman was to get up and share some thoughts about her

understanding of the Cross uh her understanding of forgiveness um I don’t have a problem

with that at all it’s it’s when a woman has a a assigned position of

authority okay what does that mean that means Joanne we’re dubbing you the lead

evangelist of the church that role that has been reserved for

1 hour, 5 minutes

men is what it means to have authority over a man okay uh if you have a Biblical

office like a pastor like a uh we use the word evangelist or like a reverend over a

congregation then you have you are you are you are you are usurping you are taking you are claiming cling a role

meant only for women now women can go well what about Deborah man you me right was a judge in

the Old Testament yes she was she did have that position as a judge but when

you really look at the scriptures she did nothing without

Barack he was the one who led the armies he was the one who who followed her

advice and whatnot and it was temporary these judges were put in place because they had no

king right so it does seem that God will do things uh for for his people in

extreme situations um does a woman praying is that exercising authority

over man I don’t think it is I personally don’t think so so many examples I don’t think so but I will say that there were

brothers that said she was that was an act of leading in worship was to be praying yeah so the difference the

matter the difference is Christine and and this is for all of you guys what’s in the heart of the

woman if if if the woman say I would like to pray if if the if her heart is

is because she wants to be noticed she wants to be seen as a leader she wants to be recognized that’s the spirit of

1 hour, 7 minutes

Jezebel yeah but if I come as the pastor and I say Del me I’d like for you to pray for us I’ve done that in this group

I’ve asked many of you sisters to pray you know for me when I was in the ministry leading churches my wife wanted nothing to do

with it she that’s not her desire she she she didn’t want to be seen as a

Church leader or but even though that was the case I still leaned on her for

her perspective on certain things because a woman’s perspective matters it’s

important and that’s why God gave us marriage so that we could have the best of both worlds in our understanding and

so even though Joy didn’t want the role she was still invaluable to me when it came to her

perspective now if she was the kind of person that wanted that role she was driven she wanted to have that Authority

yeah that’s that’s an issue and and you have to make that judgment Case by

case Okay a good clue as to who she is in her art will be how she responds

to a question about yes yeah if you apprach a woman like that and say hey

this you know I’m starting to my spirit inside of me is trying to is telling me something that I just don’t feel comfortable with it feels like you’re

you know you’re taking too much Authority here her response to that will tell you a lot if she goes wow

that responds with humility then then you know that she’s just made a mistake if she responds

pridefully in defense like hey who you know who are you I’m I’m I’m that’s the spirit of Jezebel yeah and that same is true for a

1 hour, 9 minutes

man too if I make a mistake on stage and a brother approaches me and says you you

I wanted to talk about this and I react pridefully that’s the same Spirit of Jezebel you know so we we all have to be

careful of that yeah

amen Al righty well any body else well guys thank you so much uh for having

this fun talk and for all the questions too um by the way your questions Drive these meetings you know these these things that we

study um we’ll probably be doing the uh Jesus taught Torah lesson next uh please

be keeping ASF in your prayers as he continues to try to together we’re trying to build his Center for teaching

children the Bible um really exciting we’re we’re we got I think like a $2500 goal within the first few days we had

raised 350 bucks that’s amazing uh so if you guys can continue to give five bucks

here 10 bucks there or whatever uh that would be that would be awesome and and when and when we’re able to to see it

and uh have reached that goal I’ll have uh as do a a little video for us a walk

through of what’s going on and what our our our gifts were able to accomplish there in supplies and stuff for the kids

and uh that will be a good time so um gives this group a little something to to kind of look forward to and um so I

encourage that um but if nothing else is to be said or shared um

let’s let’s pray and have the rest of our our day for Shabbat and you know what

laurian you’re G to pray for

us H father I want to thank you for this group and thank you for the truth that

you’ve been revealing to all of us freedom that we have in our relationship

with you that seems to be just growing exponentially um want to ask that you

would bless each one of us as we honor you and seek to honor you and love you

by following your Commandments I pray that you guide our steps today and as we move forward with

conviction and with courage to stand for your truth and to stand up for you um I

pray that you would also lead us to a decision about sukot um very exciting to follow the PE and try and figure out all

of the things that we should be doing and the things that we get to do and I pray that you would show us a way that

we could meet together and increase our fellowship pray that Lord today in honor

of you and pray these things in the name of Yeshua amen amen all right all right guys well thank you so much shabbat

shalom you have a fantastic fantastic week

Shalom bye bye bye Shalom thank y

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Jezebel was a real biblical person; the Teaching does not treat her merely as a symbol.
  • The phrase “spirit of Jezebel” does not appear in the biblical text.
  • The Teaching uses the phrase descriptively for conduct or influence resembling Jezebel’s biblical characteristics.
  • Naboth’s vineyard is the Teaching’s clearest case study of manipulation, false accusation, deception, and abuse of authority.
  • Jezebel used Ahab’s name and seal to act with royal authority that was not properly hers to exercise.
  • The Teaching emphasizes that Jezebel could know elements of Yahovah’s law while deliberately twisting them toward an unrighteous outcome.
  • Jezebel’s promotion of idolatry and opposition to Yahovah’s prophets are central to the biblical portrait presented.
  • Revelation 2:20 is used to connect the name Jezebel with teaching, seduction, sexual immorality, and idolatry in a later congregation.
  • The Teaching warns about leadership tolerating conduct that contradicts Yahovah’s standards.
  • “Jezebel” should not be used simply as a label for a strong or disagreeable woman.
  • The Teaching explicitly says the behavioral pattern it describes is not limited to women; men can display the same traits.
  • Several statements about women and church authority in the discussion reflect the speaker’s interpretation and should remain identified as such rather than treated as the definition of the phrase itself.
  • The most useful application is to test behaviors against Scripture: manipulation, deception, idolatry, false accusation, seduction, persecution of truth, and rebellion against Yahovah’s authority.
