Peter and James Tought NOTHING but the Torah and the Old Testament

ABOUT THIS TEACHING

This Teaching completes the series examining whether Yeshua’s apostles taught against Torah. It first identifies Peter and James, noting that the James in view is Yeshua’s brother rather than either of the two men named James among the Twelve. It then examines the audiences of 1 Peter and James, with particular attention to the dispersed tribes of Israel. The central section works through Acts 15. The Teaching presents the council’s question as whether Gentiles had to be circumcised and meet requirements of the Law before coming to faith, rather than whether obedience had any continuing place after faith. James’s four immediate instructions – abstaining from idolatry, exual immorality, things strangled, and blood – are traced to Torah, followed by James’s statement that Moses is read in the synagogues every Sabbath. The Teaching then turns to James’s letter: the ‘implanted word,’ the ‘perfect law of liberty,’ and the relationship between faith and works/obedience. Abraham and Rahab are used to show faith expressed through action. The final major section examines Peter’s letters and their use of the Hebrew Scriptures. Peter’s language about sprinkling of blood is connected with Exodus 24; his call to holiness is connected with Leviticus; and his descriptions of a chosen generation, royal priesthood, holy nation, and special people are traced back to Torah and the Prophets. Throughout, the Teaching argues for continuity between the apostolic writings and the Torah, Prophets, and Psalms and emphasizes reading New Testament passages in their Scriptural context.

here we are Peter and James taught nothing but Torah and the Old Testament why am I doing this lesson well just like before when I taught Jesus taught nothing but Torah in the Old Testament it felt like the natural thing to do Paul after doing Paul uh it just felt like the natural thing to continue on and do Peter and James this will be the last video uh in this series but there are a couple of key things that both James and Peter teaches that many in the Christian World myself included for many years misunderstood and so I thought it would be good to do a a message on these two amazing brothers let’s learn a little bit about Peter and James who are Peter and James well well we know that in Mark early in Mark as Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee he saw Simon who would become Peter and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea they were fishermen then Jesus said to them follow me and I will make you become Fishers of Men they immediately left their Nets and followed him in my discipleship lesson I go into great detail as to why why Peter and Andrew dropped their Nets so quickly to follow him but this was the calling of Peter this was when he first began to follow Yeshua and of course we know that he was eventually appointed as one of the 12 in Mark chapter 3 he went up on the mountain and called to him those he himself wanted and they came to him then he appointed 12 that they might be with him that he might send them out to preach and to have power to heal sickness and to cast out demons Simon to whom he gave the name Peter James the son of Zebedee and Jame and John the brother of James to whom he gave the name barones that is the sons of thunder Andrew Philip bartholomeu Matthew Thomas James son of alfus thadius Simon the Canaanite and Judas scariot who also betrayed him and they went into a house now what do you notice about the appointment of the 12 we have Peter we’re talking about but he also mentions James the son of Zebedee and James the son of alfus neither of those brothers are the James that we’re talking about in this lesson the James that we’re talking about in this lesson is James the brother of Jesus who was not among the original 12 but it’s interesting that in um Paul’s letter to the Galatians he still calls James an apostle or or a sent one s n t Ascent one so that’s that’s Peter James and the brother of Yeshua was not among the chosen 12 it’s a mistake that many men make or many people make when talking about James but Peter this rough and boisterous man would take on a special role within the ministry of Yeshua even though history would reveal him to be a bit of a hotthead and arrogant enough to challenge Yeshua he would still be key in the revelation of the kingdom of God and we’re going to take a look at that here momentarily but I thought we should look at this passage uh uh about Peter being the Rock and clear up a couple of things Matthew 16 he said to them but who do you say that I am this is Yeshua speaking talking to his guys Simon Peter answered you are the Christ the son of the Living God Jesus answered and said blessed are you Simon bar Jonah for flesh and blood is not revealed this to you but my father who was in heaven and I also say to you that you are Peter and on this rock I will build my church the gates of Hades shall not Prevail against it and I will will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven and whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on Earth will be loosed on heaven in heaven now I wanted to touch about on this because there are many people especially of the Catholic persuasion that believe that it’s at this moment that Yeshua made Peter the first pope that Peter was the rock on which theur church was built so I asked the question is this true was Peter the rock that the church was built on and I’m telling you here and now no the answer to that question is absolutely not and you know what even Peter himself says so in Acts 4 then Peter filled with the Holy Spirit said to them rulers of the people and Elders of Israel if we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless Man by what means he has been made well let it be known to you all and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Yeshua hamashiach of Nazareth whom you crucified whom God raised from the dead by him this man stands here before you whole this is the Stone which the you you rejected was rejected by the builders which has become the Chief Cornerstone nor is else is there salvation in any other for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved so even Peter here is identifying the Messiah as the stone that was rejected by the builders which became the Chief Cornerstone of the church the Ekklesia that Yeshua would build so Peter was not the first pope he was not the rock that uh the church will be built on so then we have to ask well then what was this vital role that Yeshua was to give him and we see that of course in Acts two and you remember in Acts two when everything kind of broke loose the the Holy Spirit came down they were speaking in tongues fire rested on their heads as if tongues of fire there was a lot of commotion this was the this was the introduction of the Holy Spirit Peter was the one who stood up and addressed it to all the people there he was the one who stood up and gave a sermon explaining what all of this was and reminding them of all of their history Peter standing up with the 11 raised his voice and said to them men of Judea and all who dwell in Judaism let in Jerusalem let this be known to you and heed my words for these men are not drunk as you suppose since it’s only the third hour of the day but this is what was spoken of by the prophet Joel so Peter stood up to deliver the first sermon defining the new reality for the people of Israel he explained in great detail the recent outpouring of the Holy Spirit and confronted them with their role in the crucifixion of Yeshua and reminding them from the Hebrew Scriptures that what they were seeing was the Fulfillment of the prophets so that’s Peter who is James James is an interesting character Matthew 13 when he had come to his own country he taught them in their synagogue so that they were astonished and said this is speaking of Jesus where did this man get this wisdom and these Mighty works is this not The Carpenter’s son is not his mother called Mary and his brothers James Joseph Simon and Judas and his sisters are they not all with us where then did this man get these new things so they were offended at him so here we see that brother yes that Yeshua had a brother named James and there was an interesting things about James that many people don’t remember or don’t realize that James did not believe in his brother John chapter 7 after these things Jesus walked in Galilee for he did not want to walk in Judea because the Jews sought to kill him now the Jews Feast of the Tabernacle was at hand his brothers therefore said to him depart from here and go into Judea that your disciples Also may see the works that you are doing for no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly if you do these things show yourself to the world so his brothers kind of in a mocking way saying hey you you want to be special go out and be special and then it says even his brothers did not believe in him so it appears that throughout the ministry of Yeshua James and his other siblings did not fully into the fact that Yeshua was who he claimed to be and of course Jesus himself said a prophet is not without honor except in his own country and among his own relatives and in his own house so he did not believe and appear it appears to me in my eyes as I’m studying this stuff out that James resisted belief in Yeshua until well after the crucifixion they didn’t believe what the Bible tells us that they would Acts 1:9 this was of course after the death burial and resurrection and this is the moment that Yeshua ascends into heaven now when he had spoken these things while they watched he was taken up and a cloud received him out of their sight and while they looked steadfastly toward Heaven as he went up behold two men stood by them in white apparel who also said men of Galilee why do you stand gazing up into heaven this same Jesus who was taken up from you into heaven will so come in like manner as you saw him go into heaven then they returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of oliv it which is near Jerusalem a Sabbath Day’s Journey and when they had entered they went up into the upper room where they were staying Peter James John Andrew Phillip Thomas parel mu Matthew James son of alus Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James these all continued with one Accord in prayer and supplication they were all there praying with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with with his brothers so his brothers were there at the moment that Yeshua ascended it must have blown James’s mind in the first place just to see him raised from the dead let alone being taking taken into heaven ascending and then standing there talking with angels so even though James didn’t start start off being a Believer he could not deny the things that his own eyes were seeing the Bible doesn’t record his conversion like it does with Paul but he ended up becoming a pillar if not the leader of the eaia the congregation in Jerusalem so I think we can safely assume that at some point he also was baptized into the name of Yeshua just as Paul was and how weird would that be for James to be baptized into the name of your brother it would be a little weird but we also know that he came to Faith so as we move on the first thing we need to understand is who were the people that Peter and James were writing to well I think we covered this a little bit in in a previous lesson but in the opening words of Peter’s first letter he says Peter an apostle of Jesus Christ to the pilgrims of the dispersion in pontis galatia capid doia Asia bethenia elect according to the forn knowledge of the of God the father in sanctification of the spirit for obedience and the sprinkling of the blood of Christ so who are these pilgrims of the dispersion that word dispersion in the Greek is Diaspora or Diaspora you may have heard that term in your former life or in your churches or in your own study and it’s basically a word that is used to describe the members of the Lost tribe of the House of Israel who were cast into to the Nations divorced by God and cast into Gentile countries so who’s Peter who is Peter writing to is he writing to all the Christians like we all used to think no he is writing to the Lost House of Israel who is James writing to I find this very interesting James a bond servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ to the 12 tribes which are scattered abroad now some people are confused when they talk about all 12 tribes being scattered well it’s really quite simple the 10 tribes the house of Israel were as I said divorced and Scattered into the Nations but Judah occupied Jerusalem but at the same time they were also all over the world the known world I should say at that time and they were not scattered according to discipline as the house of Israel was but they were still living in other places but the way James addresses this letter is very interesting in the English translation it says the 12 tribes but when you look at the Greek it’s the word DOA which is a combination of two words Duo and deca which means two and 10 so he uses the word DOA instead of just 12 he calls them the two and the 10 now you might be saying well Ed that’s no big deal he’s just identifying the 12 tribes well yeah he could have done that in a dozen different ways he could have said the six and the six he could have said the one and the 11 he could have said the three and the nine but he didn’t he said the two and the 10 which is an identification of the separation of those two entities two who were still in Jerusalem and 10 who were in the Nations here we get into the beef what do I mean by that since I started posting these videos about Paul about the law I cannot tell you how many people have commented on these videos trying to remind me some with respect some not so much of the Jerusalem Council of Acts 15 Ed you have it all wrong read Acts 15 you must have not have read Acts 15 I got a fair amount of G Galan people were trying to remind me of Galatians which is usual but a lot of Acts 15 people who are certain that what they see in Acts 15 has freed the Gentiles from lawful obedience why am I bringing this up well because James was key in this dialogue so let’s go into it and I hope and I pray that for those of you who are watching via YouTube who think you’ve got Acts 15 figured out that your eyes will be opened a little bit more to what is actually going on here so being sent on their way this is verses 3-5 being sent on their way by the church they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria describing the conversion of the Gentiles and they caused Great Joy to all the Brethren and when they come to Jerusalem they were received by the church and the apostles and the elders and they reported all things that God had done with them but some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up saying it’s necessary to circumcise them and to command them to keep the law of Moses so here we see this cherick passage where people will grab it and they’ll say say see they wanted us to these Gentiles to command to to obey the law of Moses but we’re going to see later on that that’s exactly what James said should happen they shouldn’t have to obey the law of Moses and they’re not reading this chapter in context what do I mean well go back to the very first verse certain men these were converted Pharisees came down from Judea and taught the Brethren unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses you cannot be saved therefore when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them they determined that Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses you cannot be saved is this true yes or no you’re all muted so I will answer it for you wrong this is not true why is it not true well it’s simple these men were saying that something had to precede a person’s decision to follow Christ by faith I call them Hoops that people have to jump through before they can become a Christian so these men weren’t saying that Gentiles had to obey the law he was they were saying that Gentiles had to be obedient to the law before they got saved that is the issue of Acts 15 you have to read it in context it’s this this this chapter is not about whether or not the the Gentiles should obey the law at all the chapter is about whether they should jump through the Hoops before they became Believers in Christ very important distinction there brothers and sisters you have to read each verse carefully verse six now the apostles and Elders came together to consider this matter and when there had been much dispute Peter rose up and said to them men and brothers you you know that a good while ago God chose us among you that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe so God who knows the heart acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us and made no distinction between us and them and that’s a powerful verse for those of you who want to believe that Jews and gentiles are two separate dispensations two separate entities there was no distinction made between the Jew and the Gentile purifying their hearts by faith so even now Peter is standing up and saying that this is an issue of Faith coming to Christ is an issue of faith not jumping through hoops and forcing them to obey any law before they come to faith in Christ now therefore why do you test God by putting a yoke remember that word on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to Bear but we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they are it behooves us as students of the word to try to answer this question what is this yoke a lot of people want to say that the law of God is this terrible yoke that people can’t follow now is the law a yoke yes it is what is a yoke a yoke is something that you put on two two cows to Bine whatever they me that keeps them together and keeps them walking in a straight line together like if they’re pulling a plow or if they’re pulling a wagon the Yoke keeps them moving in One Direction so it can be said that the law of God is a bit of a yoke in that it keeps us walking straight if we obey it if we keep our eyes straight ahead on the path not looking to the left or not looking to the right in that sense it is a yoke but according to so many in the Christian World they use that term as a negative word it’s this terrible weighty yoke that people can’t carry so we have to figure out what’s what what is this yoke well let’s look in Matthew 11 where Yeshua says something very interesting come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light what was yes she was yoke well what did he come to do he says in Matthew 5 that I came to fulfill the law I came to obey the law I came to be the Spotless lamb how do you get to be the Spotless Lamb by being obedient to the law perfectly and that’s his yoke and he says his yoke is what easy and my burden is light Luke 24 these are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you and that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses and the prophets and the Psalms concerning me and he opened their their understanding that they might comprehend the Scriptures so here in two different places Yeshua is talking about what he came to do what his purpose is in part and that this yoke that he’s offering them is easy and the burden is light and and and isn’t that what John says in first John 5 I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard in the comments that people say you can’t obey the law it’s impossible to obey the law you’re a fool if you try to obey the law you’re putting yourself under the Yoke if you try to obey the law John the Apostle says by this we know that we love the children of God when we love and keep his Commandments for this is the love of God that we keep his Commandments and his Commandments are not burdensome so here we have Yeshua saying that his yoke of obedience is easy and the burden is light and his beloved Apostle John saying the very same thing so it can’t be obedience to the law that Peter is referring to in Acts 15 so what is it well again when you read in context you can see that the Yoke you that Peter was referring to is forcing Gentiles to jump through hoops before they come to Christ that’s what he is defending that’s what he is saying cannot happen but we have to continue in this chapter because it gets even more interesting James 15 verse 19 therefore I and this is James speaking judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by Idols from sexual immorality from things strangled from blood for Moses had had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city being read in the synagogues and every Sabbath then it pleased the apostles and the elders with the whole church to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas namely Judas who was also barsabas and Silas leading the uh men among the Brethren since we have heard that some of you went out from us have troubled you with words unsettling your souls saying You must be circumcised and keep the law to whom we gave no such commandments so here James is saying we never commanded that the Gentiles be obedient to these things before they came to Christ we gave no such commandment it seemed good to us being assembled with one Accord to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ we have therefore sent Judas and Silas who will also report the same things by Word of Mouth for it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and us to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things that you abstain from things offered to Idols from blood from things strangled sexual immorality if you keep the yourselves from these you will do well now let me start by saying in my 40 years nearly 40 years of being a disciple of Yeshua I can honestly say that I have studied the Bible with thousands of men thousands of men many thousands of men starting in my college days Arizona State studying the Bible with two or three students a week and then as I be started leading singles Ministries I would study with single men when I started leading married Ministries I would start studying the Bible with married men what I mean by studying the Bible is I mean bringing them to Christ teaching them who Yeshua was and helping them become Believers it was not un commmon for me during that those studies to tell a man Glenn you need to stop beating on your wife right now you need to stop selling your drugs right now you need to stop sleeping around and having sex with hookers right now if you want to come to be a part of the church these are things that you can repent of right now did I expect Glenn to repent of every little sin he’d ever committed in all of his whole life no that would that would be impossible but there were things in Glenn’s life that were glaring that I could tell him Glenn right now these things need to stop you need to repent of these things now because you can and that’s what James is saying to these gentiles Don’t force them to be obedient to all these laws before they become Believers but there are some things that you need to stop doing right now and they are these four interesting things to abstain from things polluted by Idols where do we see that those commands about idolatry oh it’s in Leviticus 19 from sexual immorality that means any sex outside of the married relationship that means fornication that means homosexuality that means beastiality any form of sexual immorality they needed to repent of right now where do we see the teaching on that oh that’s Leviticus 18 from things strangled why is it important for them to abstain from things strangled well the next thing is blood and of course we see all kinds of laws about abstaining from eating and drinking blood in the Old Testament uh Leviticus 17 and Deuteronomy 12 but what’s the thing with strangled when you strangle an animal you compacted its blood the blood is Flowing freely in in the animal and then you put a rope around its neck and strangle it well the heart keeps beating until it dies so a good minute or two that blood that heart is still beating compacting the blood into the animal believe it or not that was a very common practice in days of old when it come to Butchery in dispatching of animals and eating or drinking blood a big no no which was also Al a very big deal back then all of these things that James commanded them comes straight from where the Torah the law so I asked the question if James is saying that Gentiles shouldn’t be expected to obey the law why is he telling them to obey the law and by the way Christians do you eat blood do you have blood sausage on the diet many do and yet here we see in the New Testament that we are to abstain from such things and of course all those other things matter as well but we can’t ignore the big question or the big fact that James is specifically pointing these Gentiles back back to the law while at the same time you think that James is freeing them from the law and there’s a big bold and here we have to look at this verse what is James saying here Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city being read in the synagogues every Sabbath James is saying don’t trouble the Gentiles and force them to jump through all these hoops to come to Christ just ask them to repent of these glaring things these glaring sins because Moses is taught and preached in the synagogues every Shabbat now let’s go back to my story with Glenn number two why didn’t I expect Glenn number two to completely repent of every little thing because I know that Glenn’s going to be in the fellowship at least twice a week back then it was Wednesdays and Sundays and he’s going to be learning more and more and more about the truth isn’t that exactly what James is saying here it sure sounds to me that James expects these new Gentile converts to be in the city synagogue every Shabbat learning what Moses which is another word for the law when James references Moses here he’s referencing the law so to put that red verse in English language he’s basically saying don’t force these guys to jump all through these hoops they’re going to learn Moses in the synagogues every Sabbath so when Christians try to tell you that nowhere are we expected to be in this or on church on Sabbath well that’s absolutely not true right here in Acts 15 the Jerusalem Council the one thing that you think is freeing you from the law is actually commanding you to the law James Tator James taught Torah he’s not freeing you from Torah well let’s continue there’s more here all that stuff that we just talked about all the things that James just said said it seemed good to them that was a good idea James that was an awesome idea brother amen it all seemed good to us we were all assembled with one Accord well who is us that he’s talking about well verse two Paul Barnabas the apostles and the elders all felt great about this decision Don’t force them to jump through these hoops to come to Christ ask them to repent of these basic things let them become brothers they’re going to learn the the the law the mooses Mes in the synagogues every Shabbat and the Bible says all those brothers were fired up about that decision oh and by the way it also says later the Holy Spirit felt great about it as well James taught Torah let’s jump into the letter of James here real quick a close look at the letter of jam James will show that every major theme has its origin in the Torah and the Hebrew Scriptures we can see in James 1 9- 11 let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation but the rich in his humiliation because as a flower of the field he will pass away yeah sometimes when I read these verses growing up I would think wow these guys have such amazing analogies that they’re just pulling you know out of their head for no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it Withers with its grass its flowers fail and it beautiful appearance perishes so the rich men will also Fade Away in his Pursuits where did James get that and by the way Peter also quotes this very same passages from Isaiah 40 in his Epistles we’re not going to look at it but he does where does James get such stuff Isaiah 40 the voice said cry out and he said what shall I cry all flesh is grass and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field the grass withers the flower f FES because the breath of the Lord is blown upon it surely the people are grass the grass withers the flower Fades but the word of our God stands forever James is teaching the Old Testament verse 19- 20 so then my beloved Brethren let every man be swift to hear slow to speak slow to wrath for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God Proverbs 10 in the multitude of words sin is not lacking but he who rest strengths his lips is wise he who is slow to wrath has great understanding but he who is impulsive exalts Folly so again like Yeshua like Paul James is putting into his own words that which he had learned from the Hebrew Scriptures and then we see James 1 21-2 therefore lay aside all filthy and overflow of wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word which is able to save your souls but be doers of the word not hearers only deceiving yourself for if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror and he observes himself goes away immediately forgets what kind of man he was but he who looks into the perfect law of Liberty what what could James be referring to there and continues in it is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work this one will be blessed in all he does we have to take a closer look at this verse this implanted word what in the world could this implanted word be well we’ve talked about this the only word they had at that time there was no New Testament it was the Hebrew Scriptures it was the Old Testament this is the word that we were supposed to have implanted in our hearts which does what is able to save our souls how is it able to save our souls Yeshua is the word okay yes the way I understand it is the word it essentially circumcises the heart and that’s what help assists with the saving of the Soul okay all good answers all good answers what’s the answer to this question how does the Hebrew Scriptures the Old Testament that’s supposed to be implanted in US save our souls well guess what Paul talks about this and we looked at this last week the law brings us to Christ that we might be justified by faith so here James is in complete Unity with Paul and let me just interject one little thing right here there was a person just yesterday on the Channel saying that that Paul was not just a false Apostle he was a heretic he shouldn’t be in the Scriptures at all that he was the Fulfillment of some Prophecy of the Old Testament talking about this deceiver to come I mean all kinds of stuff but if that’s true then so much of your Bible falls to the ground you have James supporting what Paul teaches you have Peter supporting what Paul teaches you have Luke supporting what Paul teaches because Luke wrote the book of Acts if Paul is what so many people think he is then you can’t trust your your own Bible to be true you certainly can’t trust Yeshua because the Bible tells us that Yeshua called Paul on the road to Damascus so guys we have to learn to read this stuff in context so James is not only verifying Paul here but we can also see the unity of Scripture he goes on to say be doers of the word well again what word the Hebrew Scriptures James is pointing us toward the Old Testament he’s pointing us towards the law he teaches Torah in the Old Testament the perfect law of Liberty he says and continues in it what is this law of Liberty and how does it liberate you these are questions that you should ask I had a dear sister reach out to me just yesterday asking begging brother Ed how do I read my Bible how do I understand it how do I get to the deeper things well in part it’s times like this where you see words like law of Liberty What could would James be referring to and then you research that you dive into it you dig it out you search for that nugget of gold in Psalm 119 he says I shall keep your law continually forever and ever and I will walk at liberty for I seek your precepts the law Christian is not bonded it’s Freedom it’s not bondage it’s liberty if you allow it to lead you to Christ by faith so when a person walks according to the Lord and keeps his eyes straight ahead of him he is not likely to sin or break yah’s law hence this one will be blessed in what he does and that’s exactly what Paul says again same chapter of Galatians when he quotes Leviticus by saying the man who does them shall live by them or because of them the quality of his life will be better if you have any doubt please go read Deuteronomy 28 in its entirety and you will see exactly what Paul Paul and Peter and James are trying so desperately to say in their letters that we have all misunderstood for 2,000 years so the man who does them what’s the them that’s the law that Paul is mentioning here in Galatians 3 in the James is mentioning in his first chapter of of course he didn’t write them in chapters but in his first few words about the law of God because why James T Torah okay then we have a couple of other things here’ll look at James 2 what do a profit my brethren if someone says he has Faith but does not have works now you can see there that I put in blue obedience why well because there’s two ways that people see the word works in the Christian world uh one is just lawful obedience which is what I put here and the other is trying to earn your salvation you’re doing Works instead of trusting in Grace you’re you’re doing all these things to earn brownie points to be on God’s good side so that when he’s sees you at the last day wow you worked hard good job so those two different ways that people use use this word Works uh one is the correct way and one is the incorrect way the correct way is to see it as obedience and so you’re going to see in the verses to follow that I’m going to replace the word works with obedience so we have a better understanding of what James is saying why do I think it’s obedience here well because the story that he goes on to say about a brother and a sister being destitute of daily food this is a matter of obedience what does it profit my brother if someone says he has Faith but does not have obedience can Faith save him if a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food and one of you says to them go in peace be warm and wellfed but you do nothing you don’t do anything to give them the things which are needed for the body what does it profit you have not obeyed the Scriptures The Talk talk about this very thing so that’s why this word Works should be understood by our Western Greek Minds as obedience and the Scripture that they’re not obeying is right there in Deuteronomy 15 7 uh 7-8 which for time we won’t read Al together so when we read James 217- 26 it should sound something like this thus also Faith by itself if it does not have obedience is dead some will say you have faith but I have obedience show me your faith without your obedience and I will show you my faith by my obedience you believe that there’s one God great you do well even the demons believe that in tremble but do you want to know oh foolish man that faith without obedience is dead and why how what what did he tell them to make this point he points them back to the law was not Abraham Our Father justified by works or by obedience when he offered isaah Isaac his son to the altar do you see that Faith was working together with his obedience and by obedience Faith was made perfect and the Scripture was fulfilled which says Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness and he was called the friend of God you see now that I’ve pointed you back to Abraham you see then that a man is justified by obedience and not by faith alone likewise when Rahab the Harlot also justified by obedience when she received the messengers and sent them out another way for as the body without the spirit is dead so your faith so your belief without obedience is dead also I I I make a strong uh Point here because there are more people people in the Christian church that want to believe that all they have to do is believe in Yeshua or Jesus and they’re good to go as long as I believe they don’t have to go to church don’t I have to read my Bible don’t I have to follow all these laws I’ve even had a few people say just this in the comments all I have to do is is believe and yet somehow they’ve never read James 2 where James emphatically says that these two things work together I will show you my faith by my obedience why do you obey do you obey for salvation I hope not you obey because you love Yeshua John 14 which shows your faith in Yeshua I will show you my faith by my obedience so James is saying that your pursuit of righteous obedience is a reflection of your faith and not a replacement for your faith please by the Love of All Things holy understand that verse when any people like us who say we obey the law this is what we mean our pursuit of righteous obedience by being obedient to God’s law is a reflection of our faith and not a replacement for our faith we’ve already learned that Paul from Paul that a pursuit of obedience for the purposes of justification is useless and here James is completing this circular hebraic logic by saying that a pursuit of faith without obedience is as equally useless so that is not only a defense of our commitment to the law but it’s also a challenge to those of you who are watching this video who who either put all your eggs in the basket of obedience without faith which is wrong or put all of your eggs in the basket of faith without obedience which is is equally wrong you need both Ezekiel 33 this is uh Peter I’m sorry not Peter this is James referring back to something that Ezekiel stood for and said they come to you as people do they sit before you as my people and they hear your words but they don’t do them or with their mouth they show much love but their hearts pursue their own gain indeed you are to them a very lovely song or one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument they hear your words but they do do not do them and guys listen I I I can tell you from my own experience that there have been many times when I sat and listened to an eloquent speaker who had a command of the English language like few others man this guy could talk he could sure preach but I walked away and didn’t change the thing and this is exactly what Ezekiel is saying you have to hear with faith respond in faith change in faith repent in faith and live by faith according to the things our Bibles teach us oh let’s get into Peter the fisherman scholar here in the last few minutes that we have Paul is talking to the house of Israel who were in The Wind having been divorced Yeshua had already reconciled that relationship through the cross if you need to understand how that happened go back and watch part two of my Paul video but the question has to be asked why is Peter writing these letters to the scattered 10 tribes of the House of Israel well it’s because the New Covenant had arrived right Yeshua brought the New Covenant in his death burial and Resurrection but they being scattered they didn’t even know this they didn’t know that the relationship between them and the father had been reconciled through the death burial and resurrection of the Messiah they were still in the wind so Peter’s writing these letters to all these people in hopes that they see it they get the good news they hear it that Yeshua had saved them as it were and he goes on to say The Obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ huh well why sprinkling anybody know this it’s a sacrifice yeah this is this is what the high priest okay I think that was was it one that said something similar let me show you Peter teaches Torah and the sprinkling of blood is what happens at the enactment of a CO of a covenant in Exodus 24 jumping down at the end there just for time they said all that the Lord has said we will do and be obedient and Moses took the blood sprinkled it on the people and said this is the blood of the Covenant which the Lord has made with you according to all these words so at the enactment of the Mosaic Covenant they were spr sprinkled with blood that’s why Peter is saying to these people in dispersion the 10 tribes for The Obedience obedience to who Yeshua and the sprinkling of his blood that stands for or represents this newly formed New Covenant Peter teaches Torah Peter remembers Torah Peter this fisherman scholar who probably didn’t get out of Elementary level education is now reminding people of all the things that they grew up hearing about and learning about and how it all comes together now when the people read these words they knew exactly what Peter was saying to them the there was a New Covenant for the people of Israel and they could return some did most did not 1 Peter 1 therefore gir up the loins of your minds be sober and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ as obedient children not conforming yourselves to the former lust as in your ignorance but as he who called you is Holy you also be holy in all your conduct because it’s written be holy for I am Holy now before I go on I I want to stress again I cannot stress this enough now that you understand who Peter is writing to it helps you understand better the things that he says in his lesson and his letters and why he says them he is talking about being obedient he is talking about conduct he’s talking about repentance not the way you did when you were ignorant meaning when you were in the world and he reminds them to be holy now some weeks ago this group ask the question in a lesson is Holiness in the Old Testament the same as in the New Testament I thought that was a fair question uh because when you take a look at what Holiness means in the Old Testament it tells us that Holiness equals being set apart set apart from what and set apart how through your obedience so holiness is to be set apart through your obedience to the ways of the Lord and we see in Hebrews that without Holiness no one will see the Lord so is Holiness here in Peter’s letter under the New Covenant calling the house of Israel to be holy does it mean the same for them today under the New Covenant as it did back in Leviticus 11 and yes it absolutely does holiness does not change the definition of Holiness does not change from one Covenant to another Peter teaches Torah he goes on in Chapter 2 in those verses 6 through eight quoting Isaiah not quoting but referring to to Isaiah 28 and Psalm 118 and Isaiah 8 but I wanted to camp out on this verse a little bit here in 1 Peter 2 you are a chosen generation remember who his audience is he’s writing to the lost 10 tribes you are a chosen generation a royal priesthood a holy nation his own special people that you may proclaim the Praises of him who called you out of Darkness into His Marvelous Light you who were not you who were not a people but now the people of God who had not obtained Mercy but now have obtained Mercy brothers and sisters there is so much teaching in this one statement from the Hebrew so much from the Hebrew Scriptures that you can’t even possibly imagine you just have to be willing to look and to search it out and to seek out the truth and so few Believers are willing to go beyond their Scripture of the day calendars so they miss it they don’t understand that right here in those two verses is talk full of all kinds of information all kinds of very important teaching that if you don’t know your Old Testament you’re just going to blow right past it and go okay you must be talking about me Christian I’m the chosen generation I’m the royal priesthood I’m the holy nation I’m a special little person he’s not we have to briefly talk about this passage of Scripture because it proves that Peter is not only teaching from the Torah but it makes a big point point about who they are he uses the word chosen that comes from Deuteronomy 6 calls him a royal priesthood that comes from 196 as does a holy nation calls him his own special people that comes from Deuteronomy 14 and these words have always been associated with the people of Israel and I jokingly put sorry Calvinists because it comes from Calvin’s teachings that this he’s talking about Christians here and he’s just not he’s reminding these 10 tribes who have been in the wind for nearly 600 years who they were who they are you’re chosen you’re a chosen generation you’re not just chosen you’re a chosen generation what does that that mean th this current generation would be the generation that would be able to come back under the New Covenant so they weren’t just God’s chosen people this group was a chosen generation and he goes into all this you were once not a people business but now you are the people of God you had once not retain obtained Mercy but now you have obtained Mercy but what what is he possibly referring to there well we again we have to to remember who Peter is talking to and he calls them back to Hosea a prophecy of Hosea if you remember this story Hosea was commanded by God to marry a woman of disrepute let’s just put it that way to have kids by her and when she gave birth to them in hoseah 1:6 he said call her name l ruama for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel and then in verse 8-9 she had she had weaned Lura and then she conceived and bore a son and God said call his name low Oni for you are not my people and I will not be your God he’s talking about the house of Israel here who lost their Mercy because of their adultery who lost their status as being God’s people because of their adultery and because of the divorce and Peter is saying that was then this is now once you were not a people but now because of Christ you are a people of God once you were without Mercy now you have obtained mercy and and I asked the question guess who else talks about this Paul in Ephesians chapter two Paul is talking about these two houses he’s talking about the house of Judah and the house of Israel who were separated and we’re going to learn how they were separated in a moment but through Christ they had the chance to become one new man thus making peace and putting to death the enmity the hatred the Discord that was existing between these two houses so before I go on to clarify that a little bit more I cannot leave without making this point that Peter is not only teaching Torah here but Peter is verifying Paul here because they’re speaking of the same things Paul is not that heretic that you thought he was if Paul is that heretic that he thought he was then Peter is as equally Guilty by condoning and verifying Paul you have to get a grip on what you believe and let the Bible speak the truth so he he says in Ephesians 2 that he himself he being Yeshua is our peace well what is this peace that he is referring to and who is the hour he’s talking about well I already said that the hour I’m sorry the house yeah the house of Israel and the house of Judah so you have to ask yourself the question well why do they have enmity between them why is there no peace between them well Paul goes on to say that Yeshua has broken down this middle Wall of Separation abolishing The enmity and the law of con Commandments contained in ordinances okay so we have to understand what’s going on here Paul is saying that there is a wall a middle wall of separation between these two houses remember back from our previous lessons that we did on Paul and my lesson on Jacob to Jesus we understand what that law is right that commandment contained in ordinances that separated the house of Israel and the house of Judah what was it it was the law of Deuteronomy 24 who said that once a woman was divorced she cannot come back to her her husband so to speak she’s not freed from the law of adultery until he dies the house of Israel was divorced and cast into the Nations so she couldn’t come back according to the law of Deuteronomy 24 she couldn’t be restored as the people of Israel until the husband died and of course we learned that that’s exactly what happened the husband died on a cross to set her free from the law of the husband from the law of Deuteronomy 24 so the enmity that was between them is revealed in Isaiah 11 speaking of future events these days and Beyond Isaiah said also the Envy of Ephraim that’s the house of Israel shall depart and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off Ephraim or the house of Israel shall not envy Judah and Judah shall not harass Ephraim why is Ephraim envying Judah why is the house of Israel envying Judah because Judah was not divorced Judah was not cast into the Gentiles and the house of Israel is in Envy of Judah why is Judah harassing the house of Israel because she was divorced and cast into the Nations so Paul is saying which Peter is verifying that Yeshua broke down that wall of separation and abolished that enmity so that these two men could become one thus Making Peace So Peter teaches Torah as does Paul the cross reconciled this relationship as we have shown that this will not fully come to fruition until the return of Messiah this everything that I just explained tells us why Peter opens his letter with an admonishment to love each other First Peter 1 since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth though through the spirit in sincere love of the Brethren love one another fervently with a pure heart having been born again not of corruptible seed but of Incorruptible through the word of God which lives and abides forever Peter teaches Torah and the Old Testament second Peter 3 1-9 beloved I now write to you this Second Epistle so his second letter was also written to the house of Israel in both of which I stir up your pure Minds by way of reminder that you may be mindful of the world Words which were spoken before by by the holy prophets and of the Commandment of your some of your virgins will say us but that really should be your and the word the removed and the Commandment of your Apostles of the Lord and Savior knowing this first so in all of this Peter is saying I want to remind you of the words spoken of by the holy promise prophets that contain within them promises regarding you okay these are promises regarding the lost 10 tribes that the prophets spoke of and that you were commanded regarding from the apostles and the Lord Yeshua so we know the Commandment regarding ing them remember it was Deuteronomy 24 it was the Commandment that kept them from returning to God and returning to the people of Israel that was the Commandment that separated them Deuteronomy 24 that prevented them from returning to yah but what prophetic promises these promises that Peter’s referring to what were they what were these prophetic promises here we see from three different prophets a promise from God that despite the fact that they will be sent into the Nations that he will gather them from the west from the north from the south from the East as far as away as they are Jeremiah I will will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them Ezekiel I will gather you from the peoples assemble you from the countries where you have been scattered so here Peter in this whole section is reminding the house of Israel of the promises spoken of by all these prophets that they will be gathered as a result of the work done by Christ on the cross the promises spoken of by the prophets that should have said prophets not promises was that even though there was a commandment preventing their return the father promised to redeem them somehow and this was accomplished through the death and resurrection of Yeshua and you know what nobody saw it coming you remember that passage in First Peter one where he said concerning this salvation the prophets who spoke of the grace that was come to you they searched intently and with the greatest care trying to figure out the time and the circumstances to which the spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah he goes on to say even the angels long to look into these things so how Yeshua was able to reconcile the two houses was something that the prophets couldn’t figure out entirely they knew they were being pointed to the Future at the time of Christ but they didn’t know they didn’t know that the husband was going to die for the woman even the angels didn’t know the Angels longed to look into these things in the way that Yeshua accomplished this goal of gathering the people that were cut off by his own law how is he going to overcome that and then lastly I want to look at this well with the Lord the day is a thousand years and a thousand years is a day oh my goodness am how many times I’ve heard people quote that you know who who likes to use this verse people who want to deny that the Millennium the Thousand-Year reign of Yeshua will pull this Scripture out because you know anytime that we see a thousand years or anytime we see a day shouldn’t we just assume that it’s just a day it’s not a thousand years and the answer to that course is no no this in no way should be used across the board to Define what a thousand years means just because it happens to be a day in the mind of the Lord why did Peter say this Peter just finished talking about the mockers all that letters in pink that I have above all these people are going to come and say where is the second coming that you hope to see nothing has changed since the beginning of time in other words they’re saying you’re a fool for waiting and for hoping and Peter goes on to remind them just remember brothers that time as we experience it is not a factor to God you feel like it’s been a thousand years and to him it’s been a day ago but he will fulfill his promises that’s why Peter said this he wasn’t making a blanket statement that everywhere you see thousands of years you should just assume that it’s a day that is the mistake that the Christian church has made that is the lesson on Peter and James teaching Torah in the Old Testament thoughts and questions and rebukes and whatever you have I am open to them all David number two oh look at that even changed his name to David number two just to be helpful to remind me not to jump in I I do have uh two questions and uh well the first one I have is on the little bit comment first when the Pharisees came saying you Jews you know you have to be circumcised to the Gentiles that in their perspective because Christ said when you go to the altar to offer your sacrifice and you know you’ve wronged someone what are you supposed to do take care of it so at at the time of Christ they were still offering the the Christians were the ones that are followers of Mia but the Pharisees they know the only place you can offer sacrifices in a temple they didn’t see Downstream that uh that’s going away and Christ knew it was going away so there a transition but the the question I had back on Ephesians because it sounds like you’re presenting a two house Theory and I’m looking at this from when you look in Ephesians 2 I’m seeing that they’re talking about uh Gentiles in Ephesians 2:12 and all of a sudden we’re going in you were bringing in um House of Israel the house of Israel and the house of Judah well everybody was wiped out of out of the land God said that I’m taking you all out so the question I have is how are you connecting what the word says in 22 when he’s when he’s when Ephesians he’s definitely talking to the Gentiles and the past Gentiles of the Flesh and he talks about circumcision because we know that that’s going away but we also know that to go under to go in and then you bring in the two house idea where where are you getting that I mean how how does that come in David you David number two you are asking one of the most difficult questions that I had to figure out myself in my journey it’s a question that me and David number one have discussed in great detail uh but I’ll do my best to answer it well tell you what why don’t you take Joe go to no no no I want to deal with this when God divorced the the house of Israel and sent them into the Nations Hosea said God was no longer their God and he was they were no longer his people which makes them what in in in hosea’s sense would they’d be quote unquote Gentiles they are no longer under but that’s not what God Said though when you read Ezekiel he says I’m tired of you guys but for my good name I shall save some of you so that’s where I’m trying to figure out is how we jump back to the houses verse and in the engrafting of what Christ is doing through the root of Jessie I listen I’m I am totally and 100% with you this this was a challenge for me because in the book of Acts we can see a reference and I’m not going to go into it now by showing it to you all because it would take too much time matter of fact you can if you haven’t washed my Jacob to Jesus lesson you should because I do a a pretty good job of of explaining your the answer to your question there but to be brief we see the house of Israel being referenced as Gentiles by Judah in the book of Acts and they were they were all for all intents and purposes Gentiles they were in the world they weren’t they were not under Covenant okay so I found it very difficult in my studies as did David number one to ascertain try to figure out okay when he says this is this a reference to the house of Israel is this a reference to Pagan Gentiles how do we figure that out well for me as it pertains to Ephesians 2 it’s clear when he starts talking about this enmity when he starts talking about this wall that’s a that’s clear teaching from the Old Testament about the two houses being at odds but I’ll be I’ll be the first to tell you David number two that I to this day as I’m studying these things get a little bit confused between those two perhaps David number one would like to jump in here and share a thought or two um I’m still I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it to be completely honest that question that you had earlier is the same question that I brought it up to Ed when he first presented it to me or introduced me while I was first introduced to so I’ll I’ll be honest with you that exact sentiment that that Ed just said right now when you’re reading this word how do you know which one he’s referring to so so I do I agree with you I find that a little bit challenging as well um and and I don’t have the answer for it at this point in time I mean I could definitely see the thread here definitely the references that uh Ed brings up and there are a lot of different references in other places um it does make sense uh but still I I’m sorry I don’t have the uh the the magic bullet or this word of you know this this seed of wisdom that will just all of a sudden make it all clear to you but I will let you know when I figure it out amen somebody else thank you David number two well some the same question was mine about Ephesians chapter 2 and the whole book looks to to me that it was the Paul is trying to figure out the relationship between Gentiles and and Jewish Believers and the whole point was about that and um and chapter two is also in my understanding is more referent to uh Gentiles and and Jewish Believers but yes Peter was mostly saying about two houses of Israel that’s clearly is but Paul is kind of taking the same passages is trying to say about Gentiles as well as not not only about the uh House of Israel and house of Judah so that’s probably one of my my understanding of that but yeah I’m open to more discovering of that question too amen thank you eor Glenn number one you have to unmute yourself there you go yeah um just on a kind of a personal level how does it make you feel Ed with the hundreds thousands of people that you studied with and um not knowing the Old Testament that you kind of made things up when questions were asked or with logically what you knew at the time how does that affect you now as far as the people you studied with and where do they stand uh where do they stand uh I mean I think um I I taught a lawless Christ for many years uh however when I was leading people to Christ I didn’t point that out I never told people oh by the way you’re you’re coming to know a lawless Christ I didn’t know that you know I just thought that was just I thought that was just fact right what I was doing is I was trying to bring people to a faith in Christ and we did I did many people um where they’re at today that would that would be completely up to them in their own Pursuit their own Journey with God I don’t in any way think that the people I brought to Christ are lost I think that they became genuinely faithful in Christ does that make sense that answer your question yeah if I I just want to add to that if anything um they think we’re lost now that we are we have um been awakened to the law I mean David and I just found many of you don’t know but back in May David and I were kicked out of our church after 32 years and um nobody has bother to tell us why or provide any Scriptures as to what their concern was but we recently found out that they are telling people that they think that we have subscribed now to a new way of Salvation yeah the disagree this disagree on our approach to Salvation despite the fact that nobody has contacted us to even find out about that so just the very idea that we are um believing that the Eternal law of God is in fact Eternal and has changed they think we’re lost and that we we are subscribing to a new Pathway to Heaven they call it a strong delusion in two Thessalonians um two I think it’s 9 through 12 is they’re under the strong delusion they’re under something for sure yes yeah couple of couple of comments at about uh by the way as as always incredible lesson uh very dense cover a lot of things um couple things related to um Acts 15 I’m sure that’s a lesson in itself um you say uh so basically they said you know you shouldn’t jump through hoops in order to become saved in order to be come into the kingdom and then after that like you said they’ll continue to grow and learn um in Acts 2 when when Peter’s calling you know the people he says repent and be baptized for the Forgiveness of your sins right that’s the entrance into you know the kingdom and in this the way I look at Acts 15 is when he says okay you don’t have to jump through all these hoops I just want you to do these four things these four things as you mentioned are coming from the Torah and why did he pick these four things because these four things also were a custom of pagan followers sexual immorality and and food sacrific to Idols Etc and so he’s saying demonstrate your repentance turn away from your old Pagan ways yeah and turn to God and then you can enter the kingdom you know be baptized you can enter the kingdom and then you’ll continue to grow and learn as you go into the into the synagogue David uh David the other David B were both both David bees by the way uh the other David B uh said uh last week I think uh he said that those things were mentioned so that the Jews would feel comfortable in these people coming into the synagogue so they can learn about things it was kind of like a a separating thing that they would not allow them to come into the synagogue so I think you know that that kind of helps clarify why these specific four things but the other thing that I challenge a lot of people they say well you know we just set to follow these four things and say well are you allowed to murder are you allowed to you know commit adultery or allowed to lie they’re not one of those four things so are you exemp from everything else right again that makes no sense so that’s one part the other part related to another uh objection that that comes up and you mentioned it in James there’s a lot of focus that uh James believed and it was uh it was attributed to him as righteousness right and so they’re basically saying hey if I believe if I have faith that’s all I need to have right um what they miss out is in Genesis 26 uh and uh Genesis 20 said God’s promise to Isaac and as part of that in verse uh let’s start reading in verse four he says and I will multiply your Offspring as the stars in heaven and will give your uh to your Offspring all these lands and in your Offspring all the nations of the Earth shall be blessed he repat repeting the the promise that he made to Abraham because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge my Commandments my statutes and my laws yeah he had Faith but he also obeyed right now this whole obedience thing also in James 2 a lot of people like to twist it and say well they they they they challenge people and say well you can’t just have faith without works right and they say well yeah I I have works I go to church I feed the poor I serve and love my neighbor and that kind of stuff but the works they’re doing is very selective I do the works that I quote unquote believe in I think are or the ones that no longer that still apply right it’s a selective thing and and nowhere you know in the Bible does it talk about this separation of there’s the moral laws sacrificial ceremonial laws everybody starts dividing and saying these are gone but these remain so anyway there’s a lot of of of uh uh partial teaching out there that is very confusing to people but this is the only way that makes sense that it just all ties together you as you so aptly demonstrate in these lessons so thank you amen okay guys well listen coule coule of things um these last four weeks have been um very intense for me as you can imagine there’s a fair amount of research that goes on in into putting these lessons together and fair amount of um of working on keynote and putting together the presentations and all the layers that go into those things uh as a result of these last several last since I’ve uh increased my time with uh reach talking to people who have reached out to me um many of you via email and um and Facebook have reached out to me and many want to talk and introduce themselves and that’s a that’s all awesome I’m I’m I’m so glad to have have done it saying all that to say this it’s been very busy last four weeks and so next Shabbat I am not going to be doing doing a zoom class um I’m going to be spending Shabbat with my family here um and then we’ll pick up again our zooms the week after that just to kind of give me some time to recoup and to spend time with my my family without uh the zoom class um having said that man it’s so awesome to see all you new faces it’s been such a blessing uh to have you here and if you could uh send me an email if you haven’t already my email is super simple ad period dos dos Gmail if some of you new folks that have not emailed me already can send me an email with your phone numbers I can include you in our texting list that way you’ll get the link to or the zoom class uh every week okay sounds good sounds great can yes can I throw in my suggestion real quick sure I know I sent you that link to some just a little taste of the uh Messianic musicians I just like to encourage people to listen to the Messianic music I probably spent two hours last night listening to nothing but the Messianic musicians I just want to encourage people to go that route because it’s so uplifting helps you learn Hebrew helps you you know phrase yah of course but it’s just very you know sort of a spiritual you know boost and says you know wow I’m singing this great music in Hebrew and praising yah and all that did you past it the link here I can get the link for you sure yeah paste the link in the chat that would be uh helpful and for those who came in late Lorien and Eric it’s good to see you and let’s see who else I think uh did Rita come in late Carol came in late but Sean’s here so it’s good to see all of you um looks like we lost about half of the people from when we started yeah it could have been uh you know people have other meetings to go to but this lesson should be online uh by tonight and if you want to share it with other people but uh guys have a fantastic Shabbat why don’t we uh flose in a word of prayer um since we started with David number one how about we finish with David number two a word pray oh oh my gosh h a the father we’re so thankful for uh Ed uh his ministry is uh that you’re feeding him knowledge through the spirit is that he’s being able to make disciples we’re so thankful for the people that are attending here that want to know more about what discipleship is to know more about your word from outside of theology but what does your word say how do you want us to understand his word and we are so thankful for that we’re so thankful that you sent your son to us so that way um yeah that we have a a hope we have the resurrection we know that uh that we will be transformed as he is we know that the people that uh that have faith in God that in in in yah or in yahovah uh that know you that uh their their rest is assured as well uh through the sacrificial uh through the sacrifice of your son to bring those people into alignment with them we also thankful for the uh for he had surgery on one of the people today or the last week that hopefully he’ll continue to uh strengthen him that he’ll continue to grow in your word and he’ll just and all the tribulations we get is so that way we can turn and praise you and your holy name for being the Creator God of the UN and this I pray in Yeshua’s name and they all said amen hey guys Shabbat shalom fantastic weekend shalom shalom

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Peter and James teach by drawing repeatedly from the Torah, Prophets, and other Hebrew Scriptures.
  • The Teaching identifies James as Yeshua’s brother, not either James listed among the original Twelve.
  • Acts 15 begins with the question of circumcision as a requirement for salvation; the Teaching treats this as the issue the council is resolving.
  • James gives four immediate instructions to Gentile believers and connects their ongoing instruction with Moses being read every Sabbath.
  • James describes the word as something to receive and do, not merely hear.
  • The ‘perfect law of liberty’ in James is connected with Psalm 119’s description of walking at liberty while seeking God’s precepts.
  • James presents faith and obedience as working together; obedience is described as the expression of faith rather than a replacement for faith.
  • Peter’s language about covenant blood, holiness, priesthood, nation, and people is rooted in earlier Scripture.
  • Peter identifies Yeshua as the chief cornerstone.
  • The Teaching emphasizes reading apostolic writings in the context of the Scriptures their original audiences already knew.
