HEAVEN – Nobody goes there when they die!
ABOUT THIS TEACHING
This Teaching challenges common ideas about heaven and asks the listener to distinguish inherited assumptions from what the speaker believes Scripture explicitly teaches. It argues that heaven is Yahovah’s throne rather than the believer’s final destination, that the dead are described as sleeping or resting without conscious awareness, and that the biblical hope centers on resurrection at Yeshua’s return. The Teaching examines passages often used to support immediate conscious presence in heaven – including Luke 16, 2 Corinthians 5, Philippians 1, and the thief on the cross – and explains how the speaker reconciles them with passages about death, sleep, resurrection, and judgment. It concludes that the promised destination of the faithful is the renewed earth and New Jerusalem, where Yahovah dwells with His people

Chapter 1: Common myths about heaven
spoiler alert that nobody goes there when they die I did that on purpose because I wanted to shock the senses a little bit uh on this on this topic but I figured it was it was good to start with Heaven’s most common myths because there’s a lot of them out there and we’re going to explore them all and start knocking them down uh one by one as we move along here uh the first one being that we all become Angels when we die if we’re faithful we all get to go to heaven and become angels and get wings and Float around on clouds and uh you know you’ve seen the imagery you’ve seen it in cartoons you’ve seen it in TV shows and what and whatnot that’s a very common myth how about babies become Angels if they die be you know before they get to grow up they automatically become Angels that’s something that we’ve heard quite a bit how about all roads lead to Heaven very common statement in in our culture at least here in the Americas what about it’s our afterdeath destination if you’re faithful that’s where you go uh when you die you’re bound for heaven uh how about our dead relatives are waiting there for us and they’re looking down upon us and they’re communicating they’re they’re advocating on our behalf uh the very common thing in in evangelicalism these days they that they look down on us and this is this is my favorite that I can refute right now first and foremost we won’t even deal with it in the lesson Heaven is all I want it to be and I put that there because when I was much younger I used to assume that you know in heaven it’s paradise and so how do you define Paradise well Paradise is is everything I whatever I want if I wanted to to change into a bird and fly around well it’s Paradise I can do that well if I wanted to change into a fish and swim around it’s Paradise I can do that and of course we see it in television that you know uh Heaven is is everything that you want it to be like there’s this show where you uh if you die and go to heaven and you happen to be a fisherman well your Heaven’s going to be on a lake through eternity fishing your brains out and if your Heaven is to I don’t know be a surfer if you love surfing well then your Heaven’s going to be surfing 247 and conversely hell will be the same you know if you’re a If You’re a murderer then your hell is going to be you getting murdered for eternity you know little things like that that I think we can all safely assume that that’s just not the case don’t know where such ideas come from probably Hollywood but that’s probably the first the first myth that we can probably just wipe off the screen without even spending too much time on it uh but we’ve all heard these statements we’ve made these statements when someone dies that he’s in God’s hands now he’s in the Embrace of our savior he’s with the Saints he’s flying with the angels he’s in a better place he’s with God in par Paradise he’s home with the Lord we’ve all heard these statements and uh I think it would be I thought it might be fun for us to determine the truth uh or figure out the truth on on these matters and uh as I was doing that it dawned on me that maybe I should ask this question would it surprise us you hurt you hurt your faith or otherwise rock your world to learn that none of these is actually biblically true and I I asked that question because of this second question more importantly if you can see from scripture that this is indeed the case can you accept it why am I asking those questions well for some reason when I teach this and I’ve taught it a couple of times in different venues different circles this topic seems to uh arouse some pretty sharp emotions from people for some reason and I’m not sure why maybe I’m just blind to it and somebody else can can explain it to me but um when you start talking about the truth of this matter it elicits all kinds of weird reactions and so I wanted to ask the viewer whether you’re here with us this morning or watching on YouTube if you can see biblically that this kind of rhetoric these these kinds of myths are not true biblically can you accept it can you can you own it and can you change your perspective can you change your position on these things I think you can I think most of us can but I wanted to
Chapter 2: Biblical view of heaven
ask that so Heaven’s description let’s have some discussion I would like for you to share what you’ve believed heaven to look like maybe something you grew up believing maybe something you heard from church or maybe just something that you hope to be true I’ve always well I can remember Grandma Emily talking about the Pearly Gates and and golden roads and um very and this part didn’t come from Grandma but I I do remember early on being taught that it was mythical you know it was like we could fly and there was no need for you know any um anything that we rely on today like we didn’t walk we flew everywhere um we didn’t have books because we were all knowing you know just kind of this ethereal place in the stars I always think about that um we each have our own room and we are gonna have whatever we want in that room uh it’s just gonna be perfect for us big like a big fancy hotel yeah okay anybody else just a lot of angels and cherim and uh you know singing and glorifying God and all of us around the throne just singing anymore okay okay Glen I don’t want to spoil your sermon well that’s okay just anything that you may have grown up thinking having to be well well for more than 50 years I’ve I’ve known that people when they die they’re they’re asleep okay I mean it’s just what what the word says yeah but as far as they’re the appearance of Heaven what I did you ever Ezekiel describes of the Throne of God yeah and so that’s that’s the only description we have which doesn’t look anything like that okay so here’s the question what does the bible actually say about what heaven looks like well it doesn’t the Bible says nothing no place in all of scripture has a description of Heaven other than the throne room of God and the angels that’s surrounded like Isaiah 6 where it says I saw the Lord sitting on a throne high and lifted up the train of his robe filled the temple above it stood seraphim each one had six wings to be covered that he covered with his face uh covered his face with two he covered his feet and with two he flew and one cried and to another and said holy holy holy is the Lord of hosts the Lord the whole earth is full of his glory again in Ezekiel that Glenn number two just mentioned very similar language about what he saw in heaven and what he saw in heaven was the throne room of God and angels nothing else there is no description throughout scripture of this place called heaven and I have to ask the question isn’t that weird isn’t that a little strange considering what most people think about heaven today isn’t it a little bit strange that the Bible doesn’t give us any details about this amazing place where we’re all supposed to go when we die nothing given for us to look forward to or dream about and I think that’s a little bit odd why doesn’t the Bible give us any description of Heaven if it’s a place that we are all supposed to go to well the Bible actually tells us Isaiah 66 Heaven is my throne and Earth is my foot stol so Glenn number two just mentioned that heaven is a place but is heaven a place like a new a whole different planet a whole different place where Green Fields roll and animals run free and this beautiful place well no we’ll see that heaven is not that kind of a place Heaven is where God’s Throne is and that’s why the Bible doesn’t give us any
Chapter 3: Resurrected bodies
descriptions about its beauty other than the throne room and of angels so let’s start breaking down some of these most common myths first and foremost we all become Angels or babies become angels I think this is pretty simple to refute not only does the bible not teach this anywhere the Bible is very specific as to our bodily form after death is that bodily form Angelic like with wings and naked babies or is it something else Philippians 3 our citizenship is in heaven from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior the Lord Jesus Christ who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to his glorious body according to the working by which he is able even to subdue all things to himself so here Philippians 2 says that because we have a citizenship in heaven uh and we are with the Lord we are his we are the eklesia that time is coming when our lowly bodies this beaten down sometimes diseased riddled sinful tent that we live in will be conformed to be like his glorious body well do we have some idea of what that will be like well yeah we do in Luke 24 after Yeshua uh was resurrected Ed he he says peace to you he showed up to his guys says peace to you but they were terrified and frightened supposed they had seen a spirit and he said to them why are you troubled why do doubts arise in your heart behold my hands and my feet but it is I myself handle me and see for a spirit does not have Flesh and Bones as you see I have so here we see something very interesting that when you Yeshua was resurrected he didn’t resurrect into a spiritual ghostlike person he was resurrected with flesh and Bone which is very telling so when we are resurrected we aren’t resurrected when I should say we we when are given our new bodies this glorious body like yeshua’s we’re not going to be resurrected in spirit form like a ghost we’re going to be resurrected like Yeshua was he was the first fruits and we’re going to be just like that but it’s going to be a glorious body of Flesh and Bone 1 Corinthians Christ is risen from the dead and has become the first fruits of those who fall asleep why do I say that because he is the first of what can be expected for the rest of us after our own Resurrection so he’s kind of he’s kind of the example we look to when we’re trying to figure out whether or not we become like Angels or if babies become like Angels he’s the first fruits he’s the example our glorified bodies will be just like Adam’s Body before the fall well what was Adam’s Body before the fall well he was a luminescent being because his DNA reflected the glory of God but he was also flesh and Bone his body was perfect before the fall and our bodies Our glorified IED bodies will be just like that when we are resurrected so we can say that this whole idea of uh people becoming Ang Angels or Angelic like or that babies become angels can be debunked biblically let’s move on how about all roads lead there how many have you heard that statement that all roads
Chapter 4: Analyzing Lazarus parable
lead to heaven and whether you become a Baptist or a Catholic or a Protestant of some kind or you know Presbyterian or Mormon or Christian or all roads eventually lead to Heaven we’ve heard that we may have said that we may have believed that but would it surprise you if I made this state no roads lead there now some of us who are watching either presently or on YouTube may be thinking to themselves well hey wait a minute Jesus is the door E’s the gate for the Sheep so that road leads there right wrong yes he’s the gate for the Sheep yes he’s the door but that Road does not lead to Heaven it does lead to some other glorious destination but Heaven is not the destination that that road leads there so if no roads lead there where do we get this idea that any road leads to heaven and of course the answer is the famous passage in Luke 16 where there was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day there was a certain beggar named Lazarus full of sores who was laid at his gate Desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table moreover the dogs came and licked his sores oo so it was that the beg died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom the rich man who died and was buried being in torment in Hades he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham a far off and Lazarus in his bosom then he cried and said Father Abraham have mercy on me and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger and water and cool my tongue for I am tormented in this flame but Abraham said Son remember that in your lifetime you received your good things and likewise Lazarus evil things but now he is comforted and you are tormented besides all this between us and you there’s a great Gulf fixed so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot nor can those from there pass to us then he said I beg you therefore father that you would send him to my father’s house for I have five brothers that he may testify to them lest they also come to this place of Torment Abraham said to him they have Moses and the prophets let them hear them and he said no Father Abraham but if one goes to them from the dead they will be they will repent but he said to them if they do not hear Moses and the prophets neither will they be persuaded the one rises from the dead okay we know this story we’ve read this story and this is the story that so many of us have turned to and said well here we go here’s an example of heaven but is that what’s Happening Here and the answer is simple no that’s not what’s happening here that’s not what’s being taught here why how can we know that well because this is a parable and it’s it’s situated in scripture amongst many other Parables how do we know it’s a parable well because nowhere else in scripture do we see a description of Heaven by the name Abraham’s bosom nowhere else in scripture do we see any place where the Angels carry us to some place when we die scripture has to confirm scripture and you need to have more than just one witness to a difficult topic and we don’t have a second witness in this regard Angels don’t carry us anywhere there’s no such thing as Abraham’s bosom Abraham isn’t their way waiting for you matter of fact everything that you see in black is what you might call exaggerated language because the the Great Gulf that’s there someone who is in quote unquote Heaven can’t look across this gulf and see someone who is in quote unquote hell again none of the stuff none of the language in this passage can be verified or confirmed or supported anywhere else in scripture so if that’s the case then what is the point of this scripture if you were to just take a snapshot of that verse or those verses in your mind and try to identify the storl of the Mory or the moral of the story what would you say it is what’s the moral of this whole story what’s the point that Yeshua is trying to make in telling this whole story well the answer is simple it’s right down there at the bottom if they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets they’re not going to listen even if someone rises from the dead okay that that there is the the moral of this whole story that Yeshua is trying to tell people of the importance of listening to the word listening to Moses and the prophets so he goes on this elaborate story about Abraham’s bosom and Angels carrying him and being tormented in flame this is where we get our idea of of not just heaven but of hell but when you read it when you properly execute it you cannot come away with that same position 2 Corinthians 5 here are some uh other verses that people want to use to support their notion of the US dying and going to heaven so we are always confident knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord where we walk by faith not by sight we are confident yes well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present from the Lord so that in their mind supports the notion of people dying and going to heaven Philippians 1 is another one for me to live as Christ to die is gain but if I live on in the flesh this will mean fruit from my labor yet what I shall choose I cannot tell for I am hard pressed between the two having a desire to part and to be with Christ Christ Which is far better and of course the famous One Luke 23 the thief on the cross he said Remember Me Jesus and Jesus said to him assuredly I say to you today you will be with me in Paradise so these are three more verses along with the one in Luke that we just read about Abraham that people like to turn to in support of their idea that when a person dies they are immediately with the Lord but we’ve got to take a look at these a little closer when you read 2 Corinthians
Chapter 5: The thief on the cross
5 and you look at Paul’s words about the difference between being at home in the body or absent with the Lord and the same thing in Philippians where he ju opposes the departing the body and being with Christ Which is far far better you have to you have to ask yourself a question the simplest way to execute this passage is to ask the obvious and I’m going to ask you this obvious question and I want you to answer for me do these verses specifically say that when we die we are immediately in heaven with the Lord okay Glenn number two says no what about some others it’s not it’s not explicitly stated here no it’s not and and guys this this question has helped me tremendously throughout the years in my personal Bible study when I’m trying to get the truth to the to the matter of of any matter I would ask this question another example would be Galatians the entire book of Galatians that people kept wanting me to read when I decided to start obeying the law I asked myself the question does the book of Galatians anywhere say stop obeying the law does it specifically say that no it doesn’t and just like that we can ask that question here do these two verses say without a shadow of a doubt that when a person dies they’re immediately with the Lord and the answer of course is no they do not in order for you to get there you must infer that conclusion you have to read those two passages and say to yourself oh this must mean ABC and thus making an inference on this on the scripture you have to infer that conclusion and I’m here to tell you that inference is is the greatest enemy of proper biblical interpretation because your inference inserts your personal beliefs into a passage that does not expressly say what you want it to say do you see that do you understand the potential damage of that and here we’re just talking about heaven guys it’s not a what the Christian World likes to say a Salvation issue if your opinion about heaven is different than mine so to speak but it’s important that we realize that even with the small things we can be led astray by inserting our own personal beliefs into a passage that doesn’t say what we want it to say and the best example of this is found in a ver verse that we just looked at surely I say to you today you will be with me in Paradise let’s take a closer look understanding that the Greek manuscripts do not have punctuation they are inserted by translators so here is that verse in the new King James version and it says to him with all these punctuation marks ass surely I say to you today you will be with me in Paradise now that verse seemingly is the single verse that should end all discussion on this topic because Yeshua is saying to this guy today you’re going to be with me in Paradise that means when the thief dies he is automatically in Paradise however when you realize that the Greek does not have punctuation and the translators add punctuation based on the language that they’re translating it into then you got to look at that little par that little comma right there after the word you and ask yourself what if we took that comma and put it there now it says assuredly I say to you today you will be with me in Paradise it changes the entire sentence where what’s happening today isn’t the fact that he’s going to be there in Paradise what’s happening today is Yeshua making that statement so can I ask the question what would be the reason for translators doing that I mean are they trying to give people some yeah hope that I’m just trying to understand the circumstances surrounding putting punctuation in where it isn’t and I mean that completely changes the meaning it’s like that sentence let’s eat comma dad versus let’s eat Dad yeah like oh okay yeah like that I mean it completely changes the meaning but why why would they do that that’s really annoying well the the question the answer to that question laoren is uh is is multifaceted meaning is the does the possibility remain that these are just simple grammatical errors made by the translator yes that possibility is there is there a possibility that this is this reflects the leaning of a translator in what he believes to be true yes that possibility is also there is the possibility there that this is a dispensational doctrinal thing that the that the maker of the Bible whoever that Association is is inserting into the scripture yes all those things are possible so can’t come down on any one thing uh you have to explore all possibilities to answer that question with with with with uh Integrity what’s hard with that what’s hard about that for me is because of the questions that we get all the time is it’s it makes it makes it very difficult for the person who’s seeking to trust what they’re reading um now moving moving the punctuation now I’ve got to worry about punctuation you know it’s like where does it end you know on one hand we say that you know God wants to be known and he will you know show himself to us and we believe that to tr to be true but when you’re trying to tell a Seeker someone who’s truly confused and wants to know things well what you’re reading you know could be punctuated improperly and it say completely be very personal yes and to that I would say this at some point in history I didn’t learn this myself I learned this from somebody else at some point in history it took a Searcher a seeker of the truth to realize this and so to me Christine what that means is as long as men have their fingers involved there’s going to be errors it’s up to you and I as the student as the Searcher as the Seeker who’s seeking God with all of their heart to discover these things and the promise is already given that when we seek we will find and when we knock that door will be opened but we have to seek the truth and we seek the truth because everything has to be unified with scripture which is where I’m going to here next uh so commas mean something but scripture needs to be unified you can’t have one scripture say one thing about heaven and another scripture say another thing about heaven they have to be unified and we have to figure this out so was Yeshua in Paradise that day the TR student of the Bible is going to say I’m not going to just trust on the comma placement I’m going to find out from scripture what else I can find out to answer this question so the question should be if he was in Paradise that day with Yeshua then we have to ask was he in Paradise that day well Matthew 12 yeshua’s own words says he’s going to be in the grave for three days and three nights nights so that right there says no he was not in Paradise that day John 20 after the resurrection Jesus makes the statement don’t hang don’t cling to me for I have not yet ascended to my father where is his father in Heaven in Paradise so he is not yet ascended and this is after the resurrection he goes on to sayi am ascending but I haven’t yet acts one the Bible says after he was resurrected he was seen among them for 40 days so all these verses are telling us that the previous verse in Luke cannot be true aside from the comma placement the common placement is important yes but more importantly is scripture has to be unified he was not in Paradise that day therefore the thief was not in Paradise that day do you
Chapter 6: What happens when we die
understand so it’s debunk and we need to know how to debunk those kinds of statements four five and six let’s refute these it’s our afterdeath destination it’s where we go and we die our dead relatives were waiting there and dead relatives look down on us well answering this question should address all these myths answering the question what happens when we die I should deal with all three of these questions and I propose I’m going to put before you that what happens when we die is that we sleep or we rest now that statement right there really gets under the crawl of a lot of people but I think you’re going to find that that’s what scripture says over and over again you still with us Sam Deuteronomy 31 and the Lord said to Moses behold you will rest with your fathers First Kings 2 David rested with his fathers 2 Samuel 7 when your days are fulfilled you rest with your fathers Job 14 man dies and is laid away indeed he breathes his last and where is he so man lies down and does not rise till the heavens are no more they will not awake nor be roused from their sleep okay Psalm 13 consider and hear me oh Lord my God Enlighten my eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death so here the psalmist is also equating death with sleep and then in Daniel 12 talking about about the future Resurrection at the return of Christ many of those who quote sleep in the dust of the Earth shall awake some to everlasting life some to shame and everlasting contempt as a matter of fact every Old Testament euphemism for death is somehow a reference to sleep or the grave gathered to his people rest with the fathers sleep go to the way of all the earth going down to sh or the grave falling asleep in Christ it’s everywhere I don’t understand why so many people want to reject this idea or this this teaching that we sleep when we die it’s literally everywhere in scripture and if this is true and we’ll see that it is then that means and we have to understand the the totality of this issue then it means that nobody is in heaven or hell at this moment if we sleep if we rest let that sink in that there is nobody in heaven or what we call hell at this moment this also means that your dead relatives are not waiting for you and in no way can they be be watching over you or looking down upon you I’m not even going to ask but I know this does not sit well with many because if that’s true then what do they know what do they see what do does the dead know what does the dead see and I am glad you asked here’s the answer
Chapter 7: The state of the dead
nothing now I know this is scary but they know nothing Job 14 as a mountain Falls and crumbles away as a rock has moved from its place as water wears away stones and as Torrance wash away the soil of the earth so you destroy the hope of man you Prevail forever against him and he passes on he dies you change his countenance and send him away his sons come to honor but he doesn’t know it they are brought low and he does not perceive it why because he’s dead Ecclesiastes 9 the living know that they will die but the dead know nothing Ecclesiastes 9 whatever your hands find to do do it with all your might for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going no knowledge no understanding no wisdom nothing the dead do not praise the Lord nor any who go down into silence now looking at those four verses of all of them which is the most curious to the Bible student Psalm 115 yeah yeah that one is the most curious to the Bible student because as I was reading these things I’m thinking to myself huh according to so many people that believe that we die and go to heaven that well we’re all up there singing praises to God but the Bible says no the dead don’t praise the Lord was very curious Isaiah 26 your dead shall live together with my dead body they shall rise awake and singing you who were dwell in the dust and we see this again in Revelation and after these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven saying Hallelujah Salvation and Glory and Honor and power belong to the Lord Our God this verse in Revelation 191 is post Resurrection post Rapture if you prefer that word Isaiah 26 I think is also post-resurrection yes yeah both of them are my point is the Dead don’t praise the Lord but the resurrected do so again there is nobody in heaven yes praising the Lord right now so that is debunk okay the dead know nothing and I know that that’s I know that that’s scary for some of you but we’re going to
Chapter 8: Importance of resurrection
get to the the the encouraging part here very quickly question yes um I have a question then what are all of the people around the throne saying when will we get our revenge yes that’s a very that’s a very good question uh that was neeva right neeva asked that question yeah those those people that surround the throne are the martyrs that’s right their blood shouts out for justification of their martyrdom now to answer that question fully nea I would have to take a pretty big detour it’s just like able yes I’ll I’ll be as brief as I can Glenn just kind of mentioned it as well um Abel who was murdered by his son or his brother I’m sorry his brother you God said that his blood cried out from the Earth for his justification well did it really well maybe to God because God can hear everything that’s very similar to those that are around the throne their their their shed blood their martyrdom is crying out for justification in the same way that abeles did that’s the short story but it was it’s a very astute question and and it tells me you’re paying attention so thank you so much in denial of the Resurrection there are some people people who will deny their Resurrection because of their emotional attachment to the idea that we die and go to heaven that that’s where grandma is and that’s where grandpa is first Thessalonians 4 we see that the Bible tells us that at the second coming of Christ the dead in Christ will rise first and if that’s the case the first first thing we have to ask is how can the dead rise if they’re already in heaven waiting for us okay got to use your Noggin if if people are already in heaven already there waiting for us Grandma and Grandpa’s there how can they rise at the second coming are they going to leave heaven and jump back into the grave to be risen no they’re not we have to use our heads here you need to you need to be blind to or flat out reject the numerous teachings on the resurrection to believe that a person goes straight to heaven or hell at the moment of death this is a very big deal second Timothy 2 their message will spread like cancer aanus and philetus are of this sort who have strayed concerning the truth saying that the resurrection is already passed so here Paul is warning Timothy of something that is not true that the resurrection is already passed it’s 1 Corinthians 15 for if the dead do not rise then Christ is not risen and if Christ is not risen your faith is feudal and you’re still in your sins then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished so Paul is warning us that if you want to get rid of the Resurrection to satisfy your notion of people being in heaven or hell right now well understand the ramifications of that position so why do some people to this day still deny or forget this whole issue because it doesn’t align with their preconceived notions their spiritual World Views or their emotionally based desires they prefer to believe that their loved ones like Grandma and Grandpa are watching over them from heaven and are unwilling to accept that they have not heard their words at the grave site you mean all this time I’ve been going to visit Grandma and talking to her she’s not heard me that’s exactly what I’m saying and they can’t handle that even what about people who oh I’m sorry Ed what about you know the people too that strong L believe that you know the spirit of their loved on speaking to them you know are speaking to them and lingering in their midst and and um yeah I mean I I people say that all the time well Spirits are real and I’m certain that you know they’ll say that the spirit of my grandma or my you know best friend helped me was there I saw you know say things like that yep that’s very true true even though the scripture expressly forbids talking to the dead it just does so all these shows too you see in Hollywood you know about you know the little Boyers and ghost di saw his saw the little girl baby sister who was aborted and or died birth you know said he went to heaven yeah all of it is witchcraft there’s a couple verses Ecclesiastes um in chapter 12 it verses 6 and 7 says remember him now that’s an italics but I I am assuming him it’s capitalized So it’s talking about yehovah before the silver cord is loosed or the Golden Bowl is broken or the jaw shattered at the fountain or the wheel broken at the well and the dust returns to the Earth as it was and the spirit returns to Elohim who gave it are you are you asking a question or yeah how does that fit in with um we’re still in the in the ground because it say because of the spirit because of the spirit that returns right yes okay so when God made Adam he breathed into him the spirit which gave him life fish yes that is what is taken away when someone dies the soul and the spirit are two different things the spirit is that which gives life the soul is our awareness our emotions who we are that’s the soul and you might have you might have heard people use the word Soul sleep because that’s really kind of the easiest way to define it even though I hate that phrase the easiest way to define it is who we are what makes us us our thoughts our emotions all those things that is the soul is what sleeps but the source of our animation is God’s spirit the fact that Adam was able to stand on his two feet was the spirit of God who gave him life at death that goes back to God but the soul who we are sleeps in the grave and I’m going to explain that in Greater detail here in a moment John but thanks for that question I actually toyed with sharing that very same verse that you just quoted in this lesson because I thought it might be come up but I didn’t and sure enough it came up but what do I know but anyways scripture must be unified we’ve already t talked about that right in your Bible study in your
Chapter 9: The moment of resurrection
exit Jesus you must let the Bible speak and keep your ideas and your Notions your desires and everything you thought you knew and understood out of the discussion when exting or studying difficult passages in areas like this the Bible will not argue with itself and will not be contradictory you cannot have people in heaven or hell right now and still believe believe in a future Resurrection or future judgment those two don’t Jive and as I’ve said in many times and in many studies that God is true and every man a liar on this topic then we have this very strange statement made by Yeshua in Mark 5 that I wanted to explore for a moment Mark 5 while he was still speaking this is the story of the the uh the daughter that died the centurion’s or the the rer ruler of the synagogue’s daughter died while he was still speaking some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said your daughter is dead why trouble the teacher any further as soon as Jesus heard the words that were spoken he said to the ruler of the synagogue Don’t Be Afraid only believe and he permitted no one to follow him except Peter James and John the brother of of James and he came to the the house and the r of synagogue and saw a tomal and those who wept and wailed loudly when he came in he said to them why make this commotion and Weep the child is not dead but sleeping to me that’s a very strange statement but I’m going to ask you what are the implication implications of those words that being dead and sleeping are two different things things we don’t die to go to sleep yeah that yes the child is not dead as we understand death or I should say as humans typically understand death but sleeping what does that mean that means that death really isn’t death isn’t that true for the unbeliever as well I mean you make the distinction but I think what you mean is that for the human There Is No Death there’s just sleep and then at the at the resurrection we either go to be with the Lord or we go to etal absolutely trth what’s what’s the how do we how do we justify the scriptures to talk about the second death the second death yeah okay well I’ll answer that question that implies that there’s a first one there is but only the Lost will experience the second death okay and real briefly without getting too off off topic who was resurrected at the SEC at the second coming the dead in Christ the faithful are resurrected at the second coming the lost the people who are not in Christ are resurrected much later to face judgment those who don’t make it past judgment are going to die again they are going to experience the second death of judgment so that’s a quick way of answering that question not part of this lesson but does that help yeah I just think that you know we’ll have to do that other lesson that this isn’t part of okay okay question yes you’re using the word dead in you know there’s the dead in Christ um death you know here where is you’re staying um so to say that death is not really death like is this just semantics or is it how we understand death or well the answer to that question Lorien is going to be understood as we go along because death is death I mean listen if this body dies it’s dead it’s death so there is an experience of death but what I think most people don’t realize is what what is to come here in the lesson I think in the in this next slide uh this whole idea of a moment a twinkling of an eye uh that we’re we that I want to get into that I think will help answer that question so if you could just hang on for a couple more minutes if if if the next slide or two and I think I only have one or two left if the next slide or two don’t answer that question please come back around okay so because I do want to look at this whole idea Paul says I tell you a mystery we’re all going to be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trumpet the dead will be raised Incorruptible not corruptible Immortal not mortal and then he makes this statement at the end that because of all that the sting of death is taken away the victory of 80s or the idea of Hellfire is taken away in a moment in the twinkling of an eye and I wanted to explore that I wanted to understand what does that look like but before we do that we have to look at these scriptures that I began with a little bit closer Philippians three says that at that moment of Resurrection we’re going to be transformed into a glorious body First John 3 we’re going to be like him as we’re resurrected and our mortal bodies which had died are again going to be given life but in a much more glorious way this this transformation that’s going to happen happens the moment you awaken from death in other words you arise in your glorious body the Bible says you die corruptible and you rise Incorruptible so this all happens the moment you open your eyes which this happens to be the moment after you close your eyes in death which I’m going to explain in Greater detail here in a moment but when you die a moment later in a twinkle of an an eye later you open your eyes with your Incorruptible body and the Bible says the first thing your eyes see is what God’s glory what does the Bible say our eyes see at the moment of Resurrection we see Jesus the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout and the dead in Christ will rise so if you die before Jesus comes back that the next thing your eyes will see is him coming out of the sky do you see that the dead in Christ will rise first when will they rise when Yeshua descends from heaven with a shout what’s he shouting do you remember when he shouted Lazarus come out that Lazarus was resurrected when Yeshua returns he is going to return with a shout who is he shouting to the dead in Christ to be resurrected and the first thing our resurrected eyes will see is him in the sky does that not blow your mind when you awaken you’ll see Yeshua descending and you’ll hear the trumpet BL fasting and you’ll be in your glorified bodies now let’s explain this whole Sleeping resting death thing okay have you ever been put under with anesthesia for some surgery or dental procedure I have many who have don’t even remember the part where they lose Consciousness uh I I went into for a procedure a few years ago and they walked up and they said okay we’re going to administer the anesthesia start counting backwards from 10 to one I think I I barely got the word 10 out of my mouth and that’s the last thing I remember all I did remember was waking up and it it when I woke up it felt like no time had pass even though it had been hours have you ever gone to bed at night and you were so tired that you don’t remember falling asleep you were just out and you wake up in the morning having no memory of the night no Dreams Just solid R for 10 to 12 hours and that time had passed but when you woke up it seemed like a moment ago we all know this when our physical bodies die our awareness our soul escapes time so whether we’ve been dead for 2,000 years or one day we will awaken in what seems like a single moment of time remember the dead know nothing so if you are Say Caleb from the days of Israel in the
Chapter 10: Earth as our destination
desert when he resurrects it’s going to feel like no time it’s going to feel like a second ago I closed my eyes in death and the same will be for for someone who dies the day before the second coming because we escape time just like it feels when we’re going under for anesthesia hours pass and it seems like what I I’m awake I it feels like you just put me to sleep and that’s what Soul sleep or resting in the Earth or resting in death is like and that’s why Paul can accurately make statements like of being absent from the body and present with the Lord because it’s going to be like that in your estimation now for those of us who are on the planet we have dead loved ones that we know are faithful and we know they’re in the grave and for us us time passes Mom Dad Grandma Grandpa they could have been in the grave for 10 20 30 40 50 years and that’s time passing for us or them there is no time so when they wake up imagine let me put it this way I’m faithful in Christ I’m sitting here and my moment of death comes I breathe my last I die a second later I’m opening my eyes and witnessing the second coming even though I may have been in the grave for 40 years or you understand yes it doesn’t matter whether it’s a thousand 100 4,000 doesn’t matter you understand that yeah okay so then if we don’t go to heaven like so many people believe where do we go Tada Earth okay we go to Earth what does that mean we go to Earth well Psalm 115 says the heaven even the heavens are the Lords but the Earth he is given to the children of men Heaven is God’s heaven is where the throne is we’re not going there we are going to a new Heaven or I’m sorry A New Earth where Theo where the new holy Jerusalem will be the Earth will be remade into its former edenic condition paradise and here with the new holy Jerusalem with us again we will reign forever now do we do we understand do we feel the weight of forever as as you know in human terms in human terms or is it like that where it’s a second we close our eyes and we because I don’t forget you never Escape time I know but it’s like the idea of forever like a kadillion bedillion Dillion kadillion years from now that’s a long time is a long time overwhelming you use a strange you use the wrong word Christine use the word weight the weight of forever we have no concept of forever Today We Live for a hundred years if we’re lucky 80 years if we’re not so lucky 70 years if we’re less lucky we have no idea of what it means to be in a world or a planet that is complete Paradise where the dimensions are Stripped Away and we’re able to see the throne room of God in heaven we’re able to see into other dimensions we’re able to interact with the heroes of our faith and who knows what that time will be if the universe truly is as vast as we all think it is won’t it be our playground at that time W won’t we won’t we won’t we be able to just enjoy all of creation yeah it’s just hard to even it’s it’s exciting but it’s also I don’t think that our human Minds can actually no we can’t no we can’t no we can’t so it’s in the New Jerusalem that we find every description of what we think is a description of Heaven in the Bible okay all those things that we look to and go oh that’s what heaven’s like nope that’s not what heaven’s like that’s what the new Jerusalem’s like things like the Pearly Gates things like the River of Life things like the tree of life things like the many mansions things like the streets of gold all are descriptions of the New Jerusalem that will descend with Yeshua that will be on the planet when everything is made new and so that is our lesson and our discussion and laurian did I answer your question what was my question I’ve had too many I don’t remember now but I I I thought our last slide might might answer it it was about St I I think so I mean I’m not going to get caught up in using a specific word so yeah it did I do I think uh Joanne or somebody had a question that we were wondering is about cremation and you know versus being buried and I I kind of feel like maybe it’s a non-issue because because God has certainly has the capacity to put our parts back together I mean step was burned you know so there are people in Scripture that were burned or were cut up into pieces so maybe how we die isn’t that big of an issue is that would you agree uh would I agree what that the method of death is somehow yeah it’s it’s a relevant issue not issue I would say it’s a very Catholic no no it’s a very Catholic teaching that if you somehow get cremated you won’t be able to be resurrected in your new body that’s a bunch of garbage yeah yeah you telling me that God doesn’t have the power to resurrect somebody who say was vaporized in a nuclear experiment or a nuclear B no of course not right you know that’s ridiculous yeah okay and the New Jerusalem comes that’s something that we experience that’s where Christ Reigns for I think 10,000 years right forever no he’ll he’ll reign in the New Jerusalem for a thousand years thousand years yeah be before the end and after the end when everything has happened when all has been judged then we live with him on the new Earth in the New Jerusalem forever brother I have a question okay brother I would like to ask what is difference between heaven and Paradise are these both same paths or something different great question Heaven is God’s Throne Room Paradise is what the Earth will be when it’s made new again remember when God created the Earth initially the Garden of Eden it was Paradise before Adam fell when Yeshua returns he is going to make all things new he’s going to return Earth to its Paradise condition make sense excellent understand understand okay well guys if there are no more questions that was quick and easy we’re going to finish on time let’s pray and we’ll have a great Shabbat and hope to see you guys soon Holy Father thank you so much for this bunch of Believers scattered all over the the world we’re so happy to have our Eyes Open by the things in your word and to come to a better understanding of who you are and what you are and and what you want for us uh in our lives pray that should give us um eyes that see and ears that hear as we read our Bibles and as we’re talking to other people about the truth of your word father lead us to those people who are searching for you and that are on the journey so that we can strengthen them be with those who are traveling wherever they’re at watch over them watch over our brother ASF in Pakistan and uh and obviously father we pray for your will to be done in Israel through all those things and of course we know father your will will be done it’s prophecy and so we just pray that you would keep people safe and out of harm and and and come quickly we love you father we pray these things in the name of your son Yeshua amen amen thank you all right guys have a great day by shalom shalom 7
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- The Teaching distinguishes heaven, described as Yahovah’s throne, from the renewed earth and New Jerusalem.
- It rejects the idea that humans become angels after death and points instead to bodily resurrection and transformation.
- Death is repeatedly compared with sleep/rest in the passages emphasized by the Teaching.
- The speaker argues that the dead have no conscious knowledge of events among the living while they await resurrection.
- The resurrection at Yeshua’s return is presented as central to the believer’s hope.
- The Teaching urges readers not to build doctrine from inference when a passage does not explicitly state the conclusion being assumed.
- The thief-on-the-cross passage is examined in light of Greek punctuation and other passages concerning Yeshua’s death, resurrection, and ascension.
- The speaker interprets the rich man and Lazarus account as a parable whose central point is hearing Moses and the Prophets, not a literal map of the afterlife.
- From the perspective of the dead, the interval between death and resurrection is described as seeming instantaneous because there is no conscious awareness of elapsed time.
- The final destination emphasized is the renewed earth, with the New Jerusalem and the presence of Yahovah and Yeshua

QUESTIONS ANSWERED
QUICK ANSWER
The Teaching says no. It points to Philippians 3, Luke 24, and 1 Corinthians 15 to argue that the faithful are raised and transformed in a glorified bodily form patterned after Yeshua, rather than becoming angels.
Key Scriptures
QUICK ANSWER
The Teaching says Scripture primarily identifies heaven as Yahovah’s throne and presents the renewed earth and New Jerusalem as the ultimate dwelling place of the faithful.
Key Scriptures
QUICK ANSWER
The Teaching treats the account as a parable and emphasizes its closing statement: if people will not hear Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if one rises from the dead.
Key Scriptures
QUICK ANSWER
The Teaching says it does not explicitly state that. It argues that the passage should be read together with the future resurrection and the dead’s lack of conscious awareness of elapsed time.
Key Scriptures
QUICK ANSWER
The Teaching reads Paul’s desire in light of resurrection: from the perspective of one who dies without conscious awareness of time, the next experienced moment is resurrection and being with Yeshua.
Key Scriptures
QUICK ANSWER
It notes that ancient Greek manuscripts did not contain modern punctuation and argues that the comma can affect the reading. It then compares Luke 23 with Matthew 12, John 20, and Acts 1 to argue that Yeshua had not gone to Paradise that day.
Key Scriptures
QUICK ANSWER
The Teaching explains that translators supply punctuation. Moving the comma changes whether “today” modifies Yeshua’s statement or the timing of being in Paradise, so the speaker says the verse should be tested against the rest of Scripture.
Key Scriptures
QUICK ANSWER
It says the person rests or sleeps in death, without conscious awareness, until resurrection. It cites passages from Deuteronomy, Job, Psalms, Daniel, Ecclesiastes, and the New Testament.
Key Scriptures
QUICK ANSWER
The Teaching says no, citing Job 14 and Ecclesiastes 9 to support the position that the dead know nothing and do not perceive events among the living.
Key Scriptures
QUICK ANSWER
The Teaching says no. It connects this conclusion with its understanding that the dead are resting without conscious awareness and also notes Scripture’s prohibition against attempting to communicate with the dead.
